Reporting hierarchically to the Director of IT Operations and Information Security, and functionally to the Enterprise Architect for architecture direction, principles, and standards, the Solution Architect plays a central role in the design and evolution of technology solutions that support Pomerleau’s digital strategy. The incumbent acts as the primary architecture lead for an initiative, from ideation through production deployment, balancing business needs, technological constraints, costs, risks, security requirements, and solution scalability.

This role is intended for a seasoned professional capable of operating in a complex, multi-site, and multidisciplinary environment, and influencing strategic decisions related to business platforms (ERP, construction site platforms, BIM/VDC environments), data and analytics platforms, as well as enterprise-wide integration and API layers.

The incumbent serves as the architectural reference for delivery teams and works closely with the Enterprise Architect, Data Architects, Cybersecurity leaders, Infrastructure Engineering teams, Business Analysts, and Development teams. They contribute to the evolution of Pomerleau’s enterprise architecture standards and principles under the coordination of the IT Architecture Committee, ensuring alignment with the broader Canada-wide IT strategic direction.

This position offers the opportunity to contribute directly to the digital transformation of a rapidly growing organization, where rigor, collaboration, and business value creation are at the heart of its priorities.

What you will do

  • Design application and integration architectures for solutions, translating business requirements into concrete, deliverable architectures in collaboration with Data Architects, Cybersecurity leaders, and Infrastructure Engineering teams for areas within their respective mandates.
  • Produce solution architecture deliverables, including architecture documentation (HLD/LLD), diagrams, target and transition-state architectures, option and impact analyses, Architecture Decision Records (ADRs) in alignment with the Enterprise Architecture Policy (EAP), integration and migration strategies, risk assessments, and technology recommendations.
  • Present architecture dossiers to the IT Architecture Board and submit technology selections and architecture patterns for review at Milestones A1 (direction), A2 (design validation), and A3 (final compliance).
  • Collaborate with Business Analysts and IT Governance teams to translate validated business requirements into feasible technology solutions, providing technical guidance to clarify requirements and effectively communicating complex technical concepts to operational and executive stakeholders.
  • Design solutions for Pomerleau’s key platforms (ERP, construction site platforms, BIM/VDC environments, data and analytics platforms), ensuring performance, security, and operational supportability within a multi-cloud environment, in collaboration with the relevant teams.
  • Decompose solutions into components, services, and integrations (APIs, events, messaging, ETL processes) and apply architecture patterns approved by the IT Architecture Board.
  • Apply Secure by Design and Zero Trust principles as well as the requirements of ISO/IEC 27001:2022, as defined by the Cybersecurity Committee, and formally document any deviation from standards through the exception management process established in the Enterprise Architecture Policy.
  • Ensure solutions comply with Quebec’s Law 25 and Privacy by Design principles, in collaboration with Privacy Officers and Data Governance stakeholders.
  • Define and validate solution non-functional requirements, including observability, logging, monitoring, alerting, RTO/RPO, business continuity, and disaster recovery (BCP/DRP), and contribute to a smooth transition to operations in collaboration with Project Managers, Delivery teams, and IT Support teams.
  • Responsibly integrate artificial intelligence and generative AI use cases into solution architectures, in accordance with data governance and AI governance principles established by the Data Governance function (under the IT Architecture Board), as well as Pomerleau’s security and privacy requirements.
  • Serve as the architectural authority for development teams, providing guidance to technical analysts and ensuring that implementation aligns with the approved architecture.
  • Ensure solutions comply with technology standards and enterprise architecture principles established under the Enterprise Architecture Policy.
  • Identify technical risks, assess impacts on existing systems, and propose mitigation strategies; contribute to reducing technical debt through the register maintained by the IT Architecture Board Lead.
  • Support integrated testing, production deployments, and post-implementation reviews, while guiding teams throughout the solution lifecycle.
  • Contribute to the evolution of enterprise architecture standards, principles, and architecture patterns, and promote the reuse of existing components and capabilities.
  • Collaborate closely with the Enterprise Architect, Data and Security Architects, Business Analysts, IT Governance teams, Infrastructure Engineering teams, and Development teams, and support technical evaluations of strategic vendors.
  • This role could be for you if you have
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent relevant experience).
  • 10+ years of experience in Information Technology, including at least 5 years as a Solution Architect in complex and multidisciplinary environments.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering large-scale digital transformation projects, ideally within pan-Canadian or multi-site organizations.
  • Expertise in application architecture, integration architecture, APIs, cloud technologies (Azure), DevSecOps, CI/CD, UML modeling, event-driven architecture, and microservices where appropriate.
  • Strong understanding of ERP environments, construction site platforms, BIM/VDC ecosystems, data platforms, and integration solutions commonly used in the construction industry is considered a significant asset.
  • Solid understanding of business processes, with the ability to translate complex requirements into practical solutions and perform cost-benefit analyses and risk assessments.
  • Demonstrated leadership through influence without direct authority, with strong abilities in communication, executive-level presentations, negotiation, facilitation, and translating complex technical concepts into business-friendly language.
  • Strong attention to detail, collaborative mindset, business value orientation, and the ability to thrive in a fast-evolving and transformational environment.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Government of Canada Reliability Status clearance (Public Services and Procurement Canada – PSPC); the ability to obtain a Secret-level security clearance is considered an asset.

Benefits

  • RRSP with up to 5% employer matching
  • Hybrid work model for corporate roles
  • Employee stock ownership program
  • Career growth through real development opportunities
  • Transit pass reimbursement — get to work for free
  • Minimum 4 weeks of vacation from day one
