SUMMARY

The Quality Inspector – In-Process is responsible for performing in-process inspections throughout the manufacturing cycle to ensure products, materials, and processes comply with engineering drawings, specifications, customer requirements, and internal quality standards. The role supports production by identifying nonconformities, ensuring process compliance, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives in an aerospace manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential requirement that represents knowledge, skill, and/or ability.

• Perform in-process inspections at various stages of manufacturing to verify compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, process sheets, travelers, and work instructions.
• Conduct dimensional, visual, and attribute inspections using measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, thread gauges, bore gauges, comparators, and other inspection tools.
• Verify product identification, traceability, and status throughout the manufacturing process.
• Ensure operators and manufacturing personnel follow approved procedures, process parameters, and workmanship standards.
• Perform first-piece, setup, patrol, and final verification inspections as required.
• Review manufacturing documentation for completeness and accuracy, including travelers, routers, inspection reports, and rework documentation.
• Accurately record inspection results and quality data in ERP/MES/QMS systems and maintain inspection records in real time.
• Identify, document, segregate, and escalate nonconforming material or process deviations.
• Initiate and process Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) when product or process deviations are detected.
• Support containment measures to prevent the use or shipment of nonconforming products.
• Conduct preliminary investigations and gather objective evidence related to nonconformities.
• Collaborate with production, engineering, quality, and other services to facilitate root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
• Monitor NCRs and corrective actions.
• Verify calibration levels and proper use of inspection and test equipment.
• Support internal audits, customer audits, and regulatory inspections as required.
• Participate in daily production and quality meetings as required.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing scrap, rework, nonconforming products, and process variations.
• Ensure cleanliness and organization of inspection areas and adherence to good manufacturing practices.
• Stop or contain production when significant quality issues or process nonconformities are identified, in accordance with company procedures.

Job Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• A technical diploma in quality, manufacturing, mechanical engineering, or a related field will be considered an asset.
• At least 2 years of experience in quality control in manufacturing; experience in the aerospace sector is an asset.

Desired Knowledge

• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, plans, GD&T specifications, requirements, and manufacturing standards.
• Knowledge of aerospace quality systems and standards, such as AS9100, is an asset.
• Knowledge of inspection methods, sampling techniques, and quality control principles.
• Knowledge of root cause analysis methodologies and corrective action (5 Whys, Fishbone, 8D, etc.) is an asset.
• Understanding of traceability, configuration control, and documentation requirements in regulated manufacturing environments.
• Basic knowledge of calibration systems and verification of measuring equipment.
