About PPD Automation

PPD Automation is a growing Quebec-based SME specializing in industrial automation and robotics. We design and integrate custom control systems for demanding manufacturing environments where reliability, safety, and execution quality are critical.

Our growth is leading us to further structure our design team. Therefore, we are looking for an electrical designer to take on the technical responsibility for the design and validation of control panels.

Your Role

Reporting to the Technical Operations Director, you are responsible for the design, review, and validation of industrial control panels delivered by PPD Automation.

You act as the technical reference in electrical design and as the team lead – electrical design. You are directly involved in projects while ensuring the quality, consistency, and compliance of the deliverables produced by the team.

This role combines technical expertise, functional leadership, and professional responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Design industrial control panels for automation and robotics systems
  • Define the electrical architecture of the systems and guide technical choices
  • Review, validate, and approve electrical schematics, bill of materials (BOM), and panel documentation
  • Assume the final technical validation of control panels before manufacturing
  • Ensure compliance with CSA, UL, and Electrical Code standards
  • Act as the technical leader for designers and technicians
  • Plan, prioritize, and coordinate the work of the electrical design team
  • Provide structured technical support to project managers
  • Participate in the technical definition of projects and some estimation activities
  • Contribute to the standardization of practices, designs, and design methods
  • Participate in the continuous improvement of design and quality processes

Desired Profile

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Member in good standing of the Order of Engineers
  • Solid experience in the design and validation of industrial control panels
  • Knowledge of machine safety, including risk analysis, safety circuit design, and compliance with applicable standards
  • Experience in industrial automation and robotics in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience gained at an integrator or OEM
  • Excellent knowledge of CSA, UL, and Electrical Code standards
  • Ability to assume full technical responsibility
  • Recognized technical leadership, structured approach, and good judgment
  • Comfortable in a growing SME environment
