As an Online Technical Team Lead at Ubisoft Montreal, you will guide a team responsible for the connected systems and services supporting the multiplayer gaming experience. You will collaborate closely with the gameplay, production, and infrastructure teams to ensure the delivery of reliable, scalable, and consistent online features aligned with the project vision.
In this role, you will contribute both to the organization and development of the team as well as to the technical quality of the backend services in a live environment.
What You Will Do
- Coordinate the online team’s activities by planning, prioritizing, and tracking work related to backend services, progression, persistence, economy, and telemetry;
- Deliver end-to-end online features by ensuring alignment between design, gameplay, client, and backend teams;
- Support a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement within the team;
- Guide team members in their professional development and knowledge sharing;
- Collaborate closely with Unreal, Ubisoft services, and Live Ops teams to ensure a consistent and maintainable integration;
- Implement robust backend systems including monitoring, incident management, migrations, alerts, and rollback procedures;
- Ensure the stability, observability, and scalability of online systems;
- Participate in technical and architectural decisions to support the project’s technological vision;
- Contribute occasionally to programming to stay close to the team’s technical realities;
- Communicate risks, priorities, and work progress to production partners and other teams.
What You Bring to the Team
- A bachelor’s degree in computer science or software engineering (or equivalent training);
- Extensive experience in video game programming;
- At least 3 years of experience in managing a programming team;
- Excellent proficiency in C++ and other languages used in game production;
- Participation in the full production of at least one video game in a programming or technical coordination role;
- Strong organizational, priority tracking, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills;
- Excellent communication, team coaching, and knowledge-sharing abilities;
- Ability to maintain a calm and constructive approach in complex or changing contexts;
- Good understanding of video game production and ability to collaborate effectively with different disciplines involved in development.
