About the Role
Join the Analytics team as a Data Scientist. In this role, you will be responsible for integrating new innovative analytical techniques and modeling complex problems to inform decision-making, strengthen risk management, and automate systems. The role holder must be proficient in integrating and preparing large, diverse datasets and communicating these results to various audiences, including senior leadership.
What You Will Do
- Take responsibility for modeling complex analytical problems, information discovery, and opportunity finding using advanced statistical and predictive modeling techniques.
- Explore and implement complex techniques such as natural language processing, text mining, multivariate testing, machine learning, and deep learning techniques.
- Collaborate with the Analytics team to introduce analytical approaches to enhance the team's maturity, lead knowledge transfer activities, and develop and present best practices.
- Conduct advanced data analysis and apply or develop appropriate complex algorithms. Perform these tasks by applying advanced statistical and predictive modeling techniques to create, update, or improve analytical solutions.
- Present, recommend, and communicate analytical solutions to a wide range of audiences, including senior leadership, in an effective and easy-to-understand manner.
- Document progress, finalize modeling books, share results in presentations and reports; apply easy-to-understand visualization techniques and simplify for non-technical stakeholder audiences.
Skills You Should Have
- A bachelor's degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science, economics, engineering, physics, or any other related quantitative field. Preference for a master's degree;
- At least three years of work experience with advanced analytics and data science technologies;
- Proven mastery of Python/R and SQL, and experience using a wide range of analytical techniques (e.g., supervised learning, data clustering, natural language processing, time series analysis, A/B testing, regressions, correlations, statistical significance, link/network analysis, sentiment analysis, and large language models);
- Strong experience in manipulating large datasets and using databases. Proficiency in query languages like SQL and Hive;
- Proven experience using big data technologies such as Spark, Cassandra, or Hadoop;
- Advanced problem-solving and critical thinking skills that stimulate creativity and innovation;
- Strong ability to work on multiple initiatives simultaneously and meet tight deadlines;
- Advanced ability to communicate abstract analytical results to operational teams.
It Would Be Great If You Also Have These Skills
- General understanding of the Canadian housing market, including mortgage insurance, social and affordable housing programs, housing finance, and socio-economic indicators;
- Proven experience using artificial intelligence (e.g., generative AI and large language models) to solve problems;
- Experience with cloud services (AWS, GCP, Azure);
- Certification in data science (e.g., applied AI and deep learning, and Microsoft Azure Data Scientist).
