Description

Job Offer – Mechanical Engineer

Development, Commissioning and Optimization of an Innovative Heating Equipment

About Glacies Technologies

Glacies Technologies is a company based in Sherbrooke specializing in the development of innovative thermal systems aimed at contributing to the decarbonization of the mining sector. Our technology uses the phase change of water to produce heat efficiently, without combustion, with the goal of reducing dependence on traditional systems fueled by fossil fuels.

The company is currently developing a pilot unit at a test site to validate, optimize, and demonstrate the performance of the process. This step will prepare for the deployment of a first large-scale unit for heating mining ventilation systems.

Glacies Technologies is seeking a mechanical engineer to join its development team as a mechanical design engineer. The selected person will actively participate in the assembly, validation, and operations of the pilot unit, in collaboration with the development team. They will also contribute to the analysis of results obtained during winter testing and to the modification and optimization of various mechanical systems to improve equipment performance.

This position offers direct exposure to the entire cycle of industrial product development, including prototyping, experimental validation, scaling up, installation, and real-world testing. The ideal candidate should be comfortable sharing their time between mechanical design, hands-on work on the prototype, and experimental data analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Design, modify, and optimize mechanical systems for industrial applications;
  • Participate in the development of the pilot unit and its transition to a first commercial version;
  • Participate in design reviews, performance analysis, and continuous improvement of the equipment;
  • Participate in assembly, installation, and commissioning activities of the equipment, with hands-on involvement on the prototype;
  • Take part in real-world testing campaigns on mining sites, including remote site trips, primarily during the winter season.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering with relevant experience;
  • Experience in mechanical design and proficiency in CAD tools;
  • Ability to work autonomously, be versatile, and solve problems;
  • Good understanding of manufacturing processes (machining, welding, bending, assembly, etc.);
  • Strong interest in prototyping, experimental testing, and the development of innovative technologies;
  • Membership in the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) or eligibility to join (an asset).
  • Work Environment

Glacies Technologies is a young, growing team currently composed of four engineers. The selected person will primarily work from the Sherbrooke offices and participate in the development, assembly, and validation activities of the pilot unit. Trips to the partner mining test site are expected, with increased on-site presence during the winter season to carry out testing campaigns and commissioning activities.
