Description

We are looking for a Customs \& Classification Analyst who will report to the Team Lead, Classification \& Compliance in Operations , and who’ll be tasked with supporting US , MX \& CA import and export operations, liaison with US , MX \& CA customs brokers. As part of your role, you’ll be significantly supporting BRP’s US customs operations, facilitating the continuous flow of goods while maintaining the highest levels of compliance. You’ll be part of the integral process in delivering BRP products to global markets.

YOU’LL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO:

Analyze import and export documentation to determine the appropriate tariff classification (HTS/HS codes) for goods (mainly parts, accessories \& apparel), and maintain systems updated with classification and applicable trade data elements.

Apply the General Rules of Interpretation (GRI) and Explanatory Notes (EN) when assigning classifications, ensuring defensible and audit-ready decisions.

Conduct technical product assessments (composition, function, principal use) to support accurate classification and avoid misclassification risks (e.g., distinguishing parts vs complete goods, or functional units).

Determine and validate correct subheading selection, including statistical suffixes, based on: Material composition

Function

End-use

Mode of operation (e.g., electric vs combustion)

Identify and assign additional tariff attributes and regulatory flags, including: Section 301 / 232 applicability AD/CVD exposure PGA requirements (if applicable) USMCA eligibility indicators (in coordination with origin team)

Review and challenge supplier-provided classifications, ensuring alignment with internal standards and customs expectations.

Perform classification risk assessments and escalate complex or ambiguous cases to senior team members or request binding rulings when necessary.

Maintain detailed classification rationales (audit trail) including legal notes, GRIs applied, and supporting technical justification.

Support binding ruling requests (CBP / CBSA) preparation, including technical descriptions and legal arguments.

Ensure consistency of classification across: ERP systems

Customs broker instructions

Internal databases

Monitor and implement HTS updates, tariff amendments, and regulatory changes, ensuring timely system updates and compliance.

Collaborate with sourcing, engineering, and product teams to obtain accurate product data critical for classification.

Support post-entry reviews and corrections, including reconciliation and voluntary disclosures when required.

Participate in internal audits and broker performance reviews, validating classification accuracy and documentation quality.

Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of classification SOPs, decision trees, and control frameworks.

Identify opportunities for duty optimization and cost savings through: Correct classification

Special tariff programs

Strategic sourcing input (classification impact)

Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for classification-related matters across distribution center operations.

YOU’LL THRIVE IN THIS ROLE IF YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS AND QUALITIES: 3 to 5 years experience in global trade services, mainly in tariff classification (HTS/HS/NICO) including customs clearance, import \& export operations across US, Canada, and Mexico.

Strong analytical and reporting capabilities, particularly in classification accuracy and data validation

Ability to work in fast paced and challenging environment

Problem Solving \& Decision making skills in classification and customs scenarios

Excellent written and verbal communication, including explaining classification rationale to stakeholders and brokers

Good reporting, data analysis \& Microsoft Office skills

Great attention to detail, especially in tariff codes, regulatory flags, and multi-country consistency ASSETS: Takes initiative

Experience with SAP (GTS preferred) –

  • Able to work independently in classification decision-making
  • Results oriented (including duty optimization opportunities)
  • Proactive
  • Teamwork, especially with brokers and cross-functional teams

Skills on Excel, Access database, ACE reports, SpinAccess, PBI
