The Embedded Linux Developer will contribute to the development, integration, testing, and support of embedded Linux software for Positron Access Solutions telecom products.
This role is ideal for a practical, curious, and technically strong engineer who enjoys working close to the hardware, debugging real product issues, and collaborating with hardware, software, SQA, and production teams.
The position offers the opportunity to contribute to advanced telecommunications products throughout the full development cycle, from design and integration through validation, release, production support, and field issue investigation.
Education, Experience, and Core Skills
A bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field is required.
The ideal candidate will have experience in embedded Linux development, firmware integration, Linux-based product development, or relevant embedded systems work.
Core skills include:
- Knowledge of the C language
- Practical working knowledge of Linux environments, including command-line tools, configuration files, logs, scripting, and debugging workflows.
- Experience integrating, testing, or troubleshooting software in a Linux-based or embedded product environment.
- Ability to investigate software and system-level issues using logs, traces, command-line tools, configuration data, and structured troubleshooting methods.
- Understanding of Linux-based product architecture, such as services, processes, networking, file systems, boot behavior, and system configuration.
- Basic understanding of hardware/software interaction in embedded systems.
- Strong problem-solving mindset, curiosity, autonomy, and willingness to learn.
- Ability to work effectively with hardware, SQA, firmware, software, and production teams.
What You Will Do
- Embedded Linux Development and Integration
- Develop, maintain, integrate, and troubleshoot embedded Telecommunication software in a Linux-based product environment.
- Contribute to product features, diagnostics, system services, configuration, and management functions.
- Work with Linux command-line tools, build environments, configuration files, logs, scripts, and debugging workflows.
- Support integration with hardware interfaces, board-level functions, communication interfaces, and product management features.
- Product Integration, Debugging, and Validation
- Support board bring-up, firmware integration, and system-level debugging with hardware and validation teams.
- Investigate software, firmware, and hardware interaction issues using logs, traces, lab setups, configuration data, and structured debugging methods.
- Support SQA and hardware validation teams during test execution, issue reproduction, regression testing, and release verification.
- Contribute to bug fixing, regression analysis, technical risk identification, and product release readiness.
- Telecom Product and System Support
- Contribute to embedded software used in broadband access, Ethernet, XGS-PON, and multi-dwelling unit product environments.
- Support product configuration, management interfaces, interoperability, diagnostics, and field issue analysis.
- Prepare clear technical documentation, design notes, test notes, issue analysis, and user-facing technical information when required.
- Collaborate with hardware, SQA, firmware, software, product, production, and customer-facing technical teams.
- Nice to Have
- The following experience is not required, but would be valuable:
- Exposure to telecom, networking, broadband access, or embedded communication products.
- Familiarity with embedded Linux product environments, hardware interfaces, or low-level system debugging.
- Exposure to network protocols, product management interfaces, or diagnostics tools.
- Experience with scripting, test automation, version control, or issue-tracking tools.
- Experience supporting product validation, production support, or field issue investigation.
- Pay: $100,000.00-$125,000.00 per year
