We are looking for a chemist to join our water quality and laboratory team. You will contribute to the development, optimization, and monitoring of cutting-edge analytical methods to ensure rigorous water quality surveillance. With your scientific expertise, you will also participate in the resolution of current environmental issues that have a direct impact on our community.

THE CHALLENGES

As a chemist specializing in emerging contaminants, you will be responsible for designing and optimizing robust and high-performance analytical methods, particularly for PFAS. You will perform various tasks inherent to professional chemistry within the team.

More Specifically, You Will Have To

• Take charge of the development and validation activities of the PFAS analysis method by liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometers on samples of septic sludge and wastewater;
• Anticipate the issues and problems related to your field, reflect on improvement paths, and suggest new ways of doing things;
• Act as a reference person for instrumentation and the resolution of complex analytical problems;
• Ensure the training of laboratory staff in tasks associated with your area of expertise;
• Write the analysis methods and maintenance procedures associated with the equipment;
• Actively participate in the maintenance and improvement of quality systems, by participating in training, audits, and identifying preventive actions;
• Report any non-conformity related to the performance of your activities as well as any customer complaints;
• Verify and approve analytical results produced by the technical team to ensure the probity and validity of the results transmitted to partners and citizens.

To Join Our Team, You Must

• Hold a bachelor's degree in chemistry and two years of experience in the development of analytical methods;
• A master's degree in an appropriate discipline will be considered an asset;
• Be a member of the Order of Chemists of Quebec;
• Master analytical technologies in liquid chromatography as well as mass spectrometry;
• Possess good knowledge of the laboratory accreditation program in environmental analysis (PALAE) and the ISO/IEC 17025 standard;
• Knowledge of the Fertilizer Residue Management Code would be an asset;
• Demonstrate good knowledge of the Office suite tools and a LIMS-type software;
• Demonstrate good planning and organization skills;
• Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to maintain harmonious relationships with various stakeholders;
• Demonstrate rigor and meticulousness in work in a changing environment;
• Show innovation and the ability to work in complexity and ambiguity.
