Hiring Unit: *GCI*

Position Summary

Assists with the day-to-day operation of the laboratory, including assisting with instrument maintenance, user support, data collection, and record keeping.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the operation and routine maintenance of instruments.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and help ensure instruments are functioning properly.
  • Maintain records related to instrument use and maintenance.
  • Assist with providing guidance to students and laboratory users on instrument operation and established procedures.
  • Assist users with data collection and basic data analysis.
  • Help maintain laboratory databases and records.
  • Follow established quality control procedures to ensure accurate data collection.
  • Assist with data validation and review.
  • Assist with supporting the implementation and optimization of existing analytical methods based on laboratory needs.
  • Contribute to the day-to-day activities of the facility.
  • Assist with tasks related to laboratory operations and client support as assigned.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of laboratory procedures and safety practices.
  • Ability to follow established protocols and instructions.
  • Experience working with scientific equipment or laboratory instruments is an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and databases.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to assist users and communicate effectively with students, researchers, and laboratory staff.
  • Ability to work independently on routine tasks and as part of a team.
  • Ability to identify and report operational issues and assist with basic troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrated reliability and ability to manage assigned tasks in a timely manner.
