JOB OVERVIEW
Foster operational excellence and innovation at BDC Capital through a strong data foundation, data quality, automation, and AI-driven workflows. This high-level position sits at the intersection of data, processes, and AI-driven operations: it involves setting up data processing chains, workflows, and agents that provide BDC Capital’s front-office and middle-office teams with a faster, clearer, and more reliable view of BDC Capital’s activities. Under the responsibility of the Director, Operations Support, the Senior Analyst is part of BDC Capital’s Strategy and Operations team and works closely with the Investment, Risk, IT, Finance teams, and external data providers. This position is part of the ongoing implementation of the operational model « Hub & Spoke » with the IT service. The incumbent leads end-to-end complex projects, provides technical leadership, defines technical standards, mentors junior colleagues, and guides peers on automation agents and practices.
THE CHALLENGES AWAITING YOU
Specific Responsibilities
Data Foundations and Engineering
- Design and maintain reliable data flows between the company’s core systems — CRM, portfolio tracking, ledger accounts, and external data providers — within a modern « lakehouse » data infrastructure.
- Manage the data model for the domains assigned to you, including transformations, tests, and metadata, to support downstream analytics and AI queries.
- Establish and enforce data governance standards: catalog, glossary, traceability, and naming conventions.
Data Quality
- Implement comprehensive error controls, automated validations, and reconciliations in the CRM and portfolio tracking systems, in close collaboration with the enterprise data owners.
- Integrate data quality controls as scheduled and monitored tasks in a regulated and auditable environment — replacing ad hoc scripts and manual checks.
- Resolve data and configuration issues and continuously improve data reliability.
Automations and AI Agents
- Design and implement end-to-end automations to eliminate repetitive manual tasks within the Investment, Strategy, and Operations teams.
- Deploy and evolve AI agents for tasks such as data entry, reconciliations, market and company research, portfolio tracking, and report generation — reflecting the overall evolution of the sector towards AI-enhanced investment operations.
- Lead integrations allowing teams to query data via AI interfaces.
- Anticipate emerging tools and practices (agents, MCP, *lakehouse* capabilities) and guide their responsible adoption within the team.
- Establish reusable models, safeguards, and standards for automations.
System Support and Deployment
- Ensure optimal use of the CRM and portfolio tracking platforms: configuration, portals, reports, and data integrity.
- Support IT and vendor deployments by gathering requirements, testing changes, and ensuring successful deployment for end-users.
Desired Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, engineering, business, STEM, or a related field. Relevant technical certifications are an asset (e.g., Databricks, Azure/AWS data, dbt).
- 4 to 7 years of experience in a data, analytics, automation, or investment operations role — preferably within a financial institution, a ... firm, a consulting firm, a tech company, or a startup.
- Proven experience in designing and deploying AI-based automations or workflows, with the ability to deliver end-to-end projects in collaboration with high-level stakeholders.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Data and Analytics Tools: Advanced proficiency in Python, SQL, and Power BI; hands-on experience with a modern *lakehouse* solution (e.g., Databricks, Snowflake). Knowledge of modern data engineering practices is an asset.
- Automation and AI Mastery: Hands-on experience with a workflow tool (e.g., n8n, Power Automate) and modern AI platforms (e.g., Copilot, Claude); practical knowledge of MCP, APIs, agent frameworks, and prompt engineering.
- Results-Oriented Mindset: Transforms ideas into concrete, operational solutions, rather than just presentations. Places great importance on data quality, process efficiency, traceability, and component reusability. Continuously seeks to improve disorganized spreadsheets and manual transfers. Establishes priorities with rigor and relies on measurable results to guide decisions.
- Curiosity and Continuous Learning: Proactively explores new technologies and thrives in the face of evolving requirements or incomplete information.
- Collaboration and Internal Networks: Builds and maintains strong internal networks within the investment, risk management, IT, and finance teams to achieve common goals. Handles sensitive investment and portfolio data by applying appropriate controls.
- Strategic Thinking and Communication: Translates technical decisions to the investment and executive teams, highlighting the commercial value and strategic impact. Writes clear summary notes and presents with confidence.
- Leadership: Provides technical leadership, mentors junior analysts, defines technical standards, takes full responsibility for assignments, and demonstrates leadership to senior management.
- Industry Knowledge and Business Acumen: Solid understanding of venture capital and private equity (VC/PE) as well as the tech ecosystem. Proficiency in French or English required, with intermediate level in the other language; full bilingualism is preferable.
