Revenue Accounting Director
About the Position
Hopper is seeking a Revenue Accounting Director to oversee our revenue recognition and partner economics function, end-to-end — starting from scratch. This is a high-responsibility individual contributor role, reporting directly to the Global Corporate Controller, at the intersection of technical accounting, data infrastructure, and business partnerships. You will evolve manual processes into a fully automated solution in NetSuite, while acting as the primary financial liaison for a wide range of agreements with partners.
What Your Day-to-Day Would Look Like
- Design and implement the automated billing and revenue accounting cycle in NetSuite, transforming current manual processes into a scalable and reproducible solution
- Collaborate with the data warehouse team to reconcile source data, identify gaps, and make necessary corrections to ensure accurate data flows in accounting processes
- Manage the full billing cycle for all partner agreements — revenue sharing, commissions, and other structures — from setup to collections
- Interpret and account for complex agreement structures, including tiered revenue sharing, variable commissions, recoveries, and multi-element arrangements
- Ensure accurate revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606 and prepare necessary technical accounting memos
- Maintain the client accounts auxiliary ledger, reconcile with the general ledger, and manage end-of-month closing for all partner revenue flows
- Use advanced SQL to extract, validate, and reconcile large sets of transactional data independently, without relying on a data team
- Read and interpret commercial contracts to extract accounting implications; collaborate with business development and legal teams in structuring new agreements
- Act as the primary financial liaison with external partners for dispute resolution, payment requests, and contract interpretation
- Oversee collections, including reviewing delinquent accounts, escalating, and resolving overdue balances
- Establish internal controls and support external audits related to revenue and partner accounting
- Bilingual communication (French and English) is an asset
Ideal Candidate Profile
- CPA designation required
- 8+ years of progressive experience in accounting, including revenue recognition and partner/client billing
- Advanced SQL skills — ability to extract and reconcile data independently, without relying on a data team
- In-depth knowledge of ASC 606 and demonstrated experience in preparing technical accounting memos
- Ability to read and interpret commercial contracts and identify accounting implications
- Strong skills in reconciling data from multiple and large-scale sources
- Experience in collections management and external partner relationships
- Clear and confident communication style, both with senior leadership and external partners
- Asset: Experience with NetSuite (customer accounts, billing, and automation)
- Asset: Experience in a technology company or fast-growing marketplace
- Asset: Experience collaborating with engineering or data warehousing teams
*This position requires proficiency in both French and English. The selected candidate will need to communicate and collaborate regularly with colleagues, managers, clients, suppliers, and business partners located outside of Quebec, as well as consult, prepare, and use documentation, systems, and communications in both French and English.
