Your team:
Within the Growth Capital team of Investment Quebec (IQ), the Senior Management, Growth Capital team makes subordinated debt and quasi-equity and equity investments in growing companies based in Quebec. The team acts as the primary partner or co-investor in Growth Capital investment transactions (M&A, growth, and entrepreneurship) for medium and large Quebec companies. The subordinated debt team is a new specialized team currently managing a portfolio of about fifteen interventions in private and public companies, leaders in various manufacturing and diversified sectors.
Your role:
The Senior Investment Advisor acts as a strategic expert advisor, supporting investment directors in the evaluation, structuring, and monitoring of subordinated debt or quasi-equity investments. They intervene at all stages of the investment process, significantly contributing to informed decision-making and the overall performance of the portfolio. They are passionate about investment, strategic analysis, and creating sustainable value and play a key role in financing the most promising Quebec companies.
Your responsibilities:
Financial analysis and project evaluation
- Perform financial analysis of transactions in compliance with internal norms and practices for company evaluation, risk rating, pricing, and financial information presentation.
- Validate business plan and financial model assumptions, making necessary adjustments.
- Evaluate project issues, risks, and expected returns.
- Actively participate in financial structuring and financial instrument design.
Investment dossier preparation and reporting
- Significantly contribute to the preparation of investment or follow-up dossiers for various decision-making bodies.
- Participate in internal portfolio performance reporting through the preparation, review, and presentation of management reports and follow-up sheets for committees or boards of directors.
Proactive portfolio management
- Perform annual and quarterly follow-ups of portfolio companies, including compliance certificate validation.
- Support rigorous and proactive dossier management to ensure portfolio quality and sustainability.
Business relationships and internal collaboration
- Maintain strong business relationships with fund managers, partners, external intervenors, and various internal departments of the Company.
- Collaborate closely with team members to facilitate knowledge transfer and act as a coach to colleagues.
Strategic watch and investment vision contribution
- Stay informed about sectoral trends, best business practices, ethical rules, and governance.
- Participate in the elaboration of the subordinated debt investment strategy and contribute to special mandates related to this strategy.
Your qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, or any other relevant discipline related to investment.
- Professional designation (CFA, CPA, CAIA) or advanced studies (M.Sc, Ph.D), an asset.
- Possess a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience as an equity, subordinated debt, and quasi-equity investment professional.
- Experience in performing analysis work to support professionals in complex investment transactions.
- Sharp business sense, ability to evaluate project success conditions and various risks.
- Knowledge of financial instruments available to private companies.
- Advanced knowledge of Excel and MS Office suite, including business intelligence tools.
- Openness to sometimes working outside normal business hours, i.e., evenings and weekends.
- Hold a valid driver's license and availability to travel to various regions of Quebec are required.
- Proficiency in both French and English, both spoken and written.
