At Commonwealth Plywood, we believe in the importance of human resources and organizational development. We are currently looking for a Payroll Technician to join our HR team. Reporting to the Vice President of Human Resources, the successful candidate will be the point of contact for the payroll service. We are looking for someone who is bilingual, has a high degree of autonomy, confidentiality, and professionalism. While being at the heart of the action, this person must be dynamic, positive, and enjoy working in a team.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND MISSION

The Payroll Technician must ensure all activities surrounding the payroll process for our establishments in Quebec, Ontario, the Maritimes, Manitoba, and the United States. The main responsibilities are:

  • Responsible for the preparation and issuance of payroll to our employees in Canada and the United States, ensuring compliance with accounting principles, collective agreements, employment contracts, authorizations, and modifications provided by managers.
  • Ensures optimal use of the DayForce payroll processing software from Ceridian.
  • Applies various tax laws and regulations related to data processing, remittances, statistics, and ensures compliance with Canadian and American legislation.
  • Applies collective agreements and employment contracts that impact payroll processing.
  • Analyzes, prepares, and performs weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, and annual remittances, withholdings, and employer contributions.
  • Verifies payroll-related general ledger accounts, compiles data (e.g., journal entries, expense reimbursements, Form 1 and T4 slips, FE calculation, tax reports, writing reports, and DAS), etc.
  • Produces annual retirement benefit plan statements, ensures the issuance of employment statements, completes CNESST ADRs for files, completes and accounts for training records for Law 90, and performs monthly syndicate contribution remittances.
  • Completes summaries and reports for end-of-year taxes, WSIB, CNESST, and health insurance for Quebec, Ontario, and the United States.
  • Trains and supports managers in the use of the payroll system.
  • Works with the human resources team on various files as requested.
  • Any other related tasks.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Professional studies diploma in accounting. Any other combination of experience and knowledge related to the function will also be considered.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Canadian and American payroll processing.
  • Proficiency in the DayForce system from Ceridian.
  • Knowledge of American laws and regulations and the different provinces of Canada.
  • Membership in the Canadian Payroll Association (CPA) is an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Proficiency in French is required. Knowledge of English, both spoken and written, will be considered favorably.
