The Full-Time Outdoor Guide position is a full-time, year-round role divided into two distinct operational periods: the off-season and the summer season.
The incumbent ensures continuous presence at the camp site outside of the summer season, contributing to the smooth operation of daily activities, group reception and supervision, as well as the maintenance of infrastructure and equipment. They actively participate in the implementation of educational and outdoor activities offered throughout the school year, particularly for youth groups and nature classes.
During the off-season, the person will also be called upon to act as an outdoor guide within the framework of short-term contracts, as needed by the camp. These assignments may include, without limitation, canoeing, hiking, snowshoeing, ski hok, winter camping, or any other outdoor activity offered by the organization. These contracts are an integral part of the position's functions and are part of the diversity of field responsibilities.
During the summer season, the person assigned to this position assumes a specialized role corresponding to their expertise, certifications, and the camp's operational needs. This summer assignment is an integral part of the permanent position and is part of the year-round employment.
This position requires functional versatility, the ability to work in a natural environment, and a high level of autonomy. The incumbent acts as an essential field resource, supporting various teams and contributing to the quality of the experience offered to the camp's different clientele.
Main Responsibilities
Off-Season (Late August to Early May)
- Ensure field presence and the overall smooth operation of the site
- Welcome groups and provide quality customer service
- Participate in the animation and supervision of school groups
- Guide and supervise outdoor activities according to the season:
- Canoeing
- Hiking
- Snowshoeing
- Ski hok
- Winter camping
- Perform general maintenance tasks of trails, equipment, and buildings
- Collaborate on various short-term projects related to the camp's development
- Apply and respect the applicable safety standards
- Summer Assignment (May to August)
During the summer season, employees holding this permanent position may be called upon to fulfill one of the following roles, depending on their profile, certifications, and the camp's needs:
- Canoe-Camping Expedition Guide
- Captain
- Canoeing Instructor
- Rock Climbing Instructor
These summer assignments are part of the permanent position's continuity and are an integral part of the employment journey offered.
Desired Profile
- Relevant training or experience in the outdoors, leisure, adventure tourism, or related field
- Ability to work autonomously and manage varied tasks
- Sense of organization, resourcefulness, and reliability
- Comfort with living in a natural environment and staying on-site
- Good interpersonal skills and team spirit
- No criminal record related to the job
- Hold a Class 5 driver's license
Assets
- Outdoor certifications (canoeing, first aid in remote areas, rock climbing, etc.)
- Experience in a camp environment or nature classes
- Experience in guiding, animating, or working with groups
- Interest in long-term commitment and professional development
- Hold a Class 4B driver's license
Employment Conditions
- Hourly wage: between $19.00 and $22.00, depending on experience and training
