Job Overview

We are looking for a Legal Advisor - Legal and Regulatory Affairs with 3 to 5 years of experience to join our Legal and Regulatory Affairs team based in Montreal.

This position is ideal for a lawyer who has gained experience in a private practice and/or corporate litigation, and has strong backgrounds in regulatory law, litigation, and dispute resolution.

The primary mandate of this position is to support the company's regulatory awareness and representation efforts, and to advise the organization on current and upcoming regulatory procedures in Canada and the United States. The successful candidate will also provide legal support for disputes and litigation affecting the entire company.

Beyond this central responsibility, the legal advisor will act as a trusted advisor to the senior management, offering practical legal and regulatory advice on a wide range of business issues. Although the position is primarily focused on Canadian matters, the incumbent will also support some legal and regulatory initiatives in the United States.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise the company on regulatory procedures and policy evolution in Canada and the United States.
  • Support the company's regulatory representation strategy with regulatory bodies and other government agencies.
  • Provide legal advice and strategic support in disputes, litigation, investigations, and related risk management.
  • Manage external legal advisors and oversee litigation and regulatory cases to ensure efficient and optimal results.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents, submissions, and correspondence related to regulatory and litigation matters.
  • Collaborate with business leaders and cross-functional teams to identify legal and regulatory risks and develop business-focused solutions.
  • Provide legal and regulatory advice to senior management on a wide range of commercial, operational, and strategic initiatives.
  • Monitor the evolution of laws and regulations and communicate their potential impact on the company.
  • Support the entire legal and regulatory function for other matters, as the company's needs evolve.

Qualifications

  • Law degree (LL.B., J.D., or equivalent) and be a member in good standing of a Canadian provincial bar.
  • 3 to 5 years of legal experience in a law firm and/or corporate litigation.
  • Experience in regulatory law, litigation, dispute resolution, or administrative law.
  • Knowledge of Canadian regulatory frameworks; exposure to U.S. regulatory matters is considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical, writing, advocacy, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent judgment and pragmatic approach to legal advice, business-focused.
  • Strong relational and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset, given that the position is based in Montreal and requires supporting stakeholders across North America.
  • Why Join Us?

This is an opportunity to play a significant role within a small, collaborative legal and regulatory team, supporting a dynamic North American company. The successful candidate will work on high-impact regulatory, litigation, and legal matters while closely collaborating with senior management on issues that directly impact the company's operations and long-term success.
