General Information
The position is to be filled at the Firearms and Explosives Control Bureau of the Principal Directorate of Strategy and Institutional Affairs.
Unit Mandate
The Firearms and Explosives Control Bureau manages activities related to the administration of the Firearms Act (FA) and its regulations, the Act to Promote the Protection of Persons Engaged in an Activity Involving Firearms and Amending the Act Respecting Safety in Sports, as well as the portion of the Criminal Code dealing with firearms and other weapons and their related regulations. In this capacity, it coordinates activities related to firearms permits. It also provides legal and training advice regarding the FA. It also coordinates activities related to the issuance of explosives permits.
Your Role Will Consist Of
- Provide information to a diverse clientele (citizens, police officers, lawyers, healthcare professionals, etc.) on the application and administration of legislative and regulatory provisions of the Firearms Act, the Explosives Act, and their regulations.
- Assist individuals and groups in identifying their needs and validate information in specialized databases before disclosing it.
- Guide the clientele on the procedures or processes to follow and inform them on the status of an application.
- Ensure that information is recorded in the registers provided for this purpose when required.
- Receive and analyze all correspondence and concerns from the clientele and interveners, including citizens, police officers, healthcare professionals, and psychosocial interveners.
- Ensure that all questions are asked to collect and record complete information on the psychosocial and criminal profile of the person of concern.
- Ensure that the file of concern is immediately transmitted to the investigation team for rapid processing.
- Finalize the processing of admissible firearms permit applications by approving them.
- Compensation
- $44,653 to $61,163*

Work Location
The position to be filled is located at 1701 Parthenais Street in Montreal.
Telework / In-Person
The hired person may be authorized to telework up to a maximum of two days per week, in accordance with the Treasury Board Secretariat's Telework Policy for Public Service Personnel.

Job Requirements
- Hold a high school diploma (DES) issued by the competent authority or a certificate of studies whose equivalence is recognized by the competent authority;
The candidacy of a person who is in the process of completing the last year of studies required for the acquisition of the required diploma may be considered.
Each missing year of schooling can be compensated by one year of relevant schooling of equal or higher level than that required or by two years of paid or unpaid work experience, including family caregiving. The DES can also be compensated by a professional specialization certificate or a professional studies diploma.
For consideration, any schooling completed outside of Canada must be subject to a comparative evaluation (equivalence certificate) issued by the Ministry of Immigration, Francization, and Integration.
- Have at least one year of relevant experience in the duties of the Customer Support Agent class.
- Possess Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status or a work permit issued by the competent federal authority.
A person awaiting proof of permanent resident status or a work permit may submit their candidacy to the present selection process. However, they must be authorized to work legally in Canada at the time of their appointment.
- Have appropriate knowledge of French for the functions.
