Education

Certificate or diploma from a college, CEGEP, or other non-university educational institution in a 1- to 2-year program or equivalent experience

Tasks

Prepare cost evaluations of materials and/or labor

Prepare prequalification submissions to present to clients

Read plans, drawings, and specifications to determine work requirements

Operate computer-aided design and drafting (CAD) systems and other computer systems

Prepare a general expense evaluation

Conduct profitability studies and provide estimated quotes related to proposed projects

Determine cash flow and liquidity needs

Create and submit estimation reports, quote sheets, and submission forms

Follow pre-construction procedures

Provide advice on submission procedures

Analyze submissions and recommend their acceptance

Monitor and adjust contract expenses

Prepare and update directories of suppliers and specialized contractors

Communicate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors, coordinate with them, and consult with them on changes and adjustments to cost evaluations

Estimate the type and quantity of materials and workers needed for production, construction, and other projects

Prepare and track contracts and budgets

Meet with clients to discuss system features, technical specifications, costs, and schedules
