SUMMARY

The SSE Coordinator coordinates the health, safety, and environment programs to help the account management team maintain compliance, mitigate and manage risks related to the environment, health, and safety, and improve related performance.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Coordination

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for information and incidents related to the environment, health, and safety.
  • Provide guidance to the account management team on issues related to the environment, health, and safety and escalate requests as necessary.
  • Coordinate the implementation of environment, health, and safety programs and related processes, procedures, and resources.
  • Coordinate environmental, safety, and health activities, including but not limited to, health and safety committee meetings and activities, incident investigations and resolution, training, return to work, and audits.
  • Conduct research related to environment, health, and safety issues and provide the findings and recommendations gathered.
  • Maintain and participate in the creation of environmental, safety, and health documentation, including but not limited to, plans, processes, and procedures.
  • Create and maintain documentation, including but not limited to, instruction sheets, checklists, forms, and training materials.
  • Participate in site visits, workplace observations, and audits related to the environment, safety, and health, and any other type of review to verify compliance with requirements in these areas and identify risks. Provide risk findings and suggest measures to mitigate them.

Incident: Investigation, Resolution, and Reduction

  • Participate in incident investigations and resolution, including the analysis of root causes, providing probable causes of the incident, and offering recommendations for resolving incidents.
  • Coordinate the implementation of corrective and preventive measures.
  • Participate in the identification and analysis of trends. Communicate observations and offer suggestions for incident reduction measures.

Audit, Data Maintenance, and Reporting

  • Maintain all environmental, safety, and health data, including but not limited to, file reviews, data verification within applicable databases, and any other type of information storage.
  • Participate in compliance file audits and any other data related to the environment, health, and safety.
  • Prepare and distribute various reports on the environment, health, and safety, including but not limited to, incident reports.
  • Any other assigned tasks.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Hold a completed DEC.
  • Hold an accreditation from one of the following – professional hygiene and safety certificate, environmental management certificate issued by a CÉGEP; or a university degree in occupational hygiene, environmental engineering, and/or environmental sciences, or a health and safety certificate.
  • Hold 1 to 3 years of experience in environment, health, and safety.
  • French, spoken and written. English is an asset.
  • Possess an understanding of regulatory requirements in environment, health, and safety.
  • Possess strong organizational and coordination skills; ability to coordinate multiple requirements (e.g., processes, activities, projects) simultaneously.
  • Possess strong communication skills and ability to influence stakeholders.
  • Possess strong administrative skills and ability to maintain data records accurately.
  • Possess analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Possess the ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to obtain appropriate security clearance.
  • Construction ASP card, an asset.
  • Professional Certifications or Accreditations
  • Interest in obtaining one of the following accreditations considered an asset:

  • Health :
  • *Certified Health & Safety Consultant* (certified health and safety consultant) from the Canadian Society for Occupational Health and Safety.
