• The offered position:

This dynamic position involves direct patient care in a specialized infusion clinic, recognized as an excellence center for specialty medications. The infusion nurse provides professional nursing care to patients with chronic conditions, including neurological disorders, inflammatory bowel diseases, rheumatic diseases, and other chronic illnesses. The primary functions of this position will focus on patient assessment, medication administration via infusion or injection, and treatment outcome monitoring, including disease progression, symptoms, and medication management. As the primary resource for the healthcare professionals assigned to them (physicians, nurses, and medical assistants), the infusion nurse ensures that patients have practical and comfortable access to their prescribed treatments while serving as a key resource in supporting disease management and providing treatment education.

As the primary person responsible for the operation of the clinic, the infusion nurse must ensure compliance with all requirements, including quality standards and patient care quality, which includes managing care processes, adhering to clinical standards, and seeking operational excellence to ensure safe and effective treatment delivery.

A day in the life of (what you will do here)

• Perform comprehensive pre-treatment evaluations to assess patient eligibility for treatment.
• Set up peripheral intravenous infusions or place central venous catheters in accordance with provincial standards and best practices.
• Provide medical support to patients, including education on specific diseases, treatments, and disease management.
• Support and supervise medication administration via IV, SC, and IM routes in a clinical setting.
• Handle and reconstitute biologic medications and oncology medications in accordance with manufacturer and Health Canada directives.
• Monitor patients before, during, and after treatment.
• Update knowledge on specific treatments by consulting Health Canada monographs, company policies, and procedures.
• Maintain a safe and clean clinical environment by adhering to established procedures, rules, and regulations, and always respecting quality, safety, and infection control standards.
• Maintain an adequate supply of medical and office supplies by regularly checking stocks and placing timely orders.
• Document and keep patient records up-to-date to ensure accurate treatment history is recorded.
• Submit necessary documents to the relevant parties in a timely manner, in accordance with Sentrex policies.
• Ensure the confidentiality of patient and company information, disclosing only that which is necessary to authorized employees, in accordance with confidentiality and privacy protection standards and policies.
• Establish communication with physicians' offices, pharmacies, service providers, and other stakeholders to provide comprehensive and coordinated service to patients and healthcare professionals.
• Participate in internal and/or external continuing education activities, clinic audits, and training sessions.
• Administer and follow patient care protocols, including clinical monitoring, data collection, continuous patient follow-up, treatment adherence, monitoring of treatment interruptions/stops, reporting of adverse events, and communication with primary care providers.
• Comply with and follow all directives from the provincial Order of Registered Nurses and Registered Nurse Practitioners while providing patient care.
• Report adverse events in accordance with Health Canada, manufacturer, and company directives.
• Perform other tasks as requested by your immediate supervisor.

What you need to succeed

• At least two to four years of experience in intravenous perfusion.
• Registered Nurse or Registered Nurse Practitioner.
• Experience in intensive care, emergency care, oncology, and/or pediatrics is an asset.
• Be a member in good standing of the provincial Order of Registered Nurses and Registered Nurse Practitioners.
• RCR and First Aid certificates required.
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support), CVAA, CON(C), PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certificates are assets.
• Excellent mastery of intravenous catheter placement techniques.
• Confidence in providing patient education, including medication and self-injection technique education.
• Confidence in administering medications via IV, IM, and/or SC routes.
• Passionate about patient care and removing barriers to access care.
• Ability to work autonomously and effectively within a larger, remote team.
• Ability to follow medical directives and manage infusion-related reactions.
• Good knowledge of the pharmaceutical sector is an asset.
