As the largest animal protection organization in Quebec, the SPCA of Montreal is seeking a Payroll and Accounting Assistant, replacement for a maternity leave until September 15, 2027 to join our dedicated team working towards a common goal: the well-being of animals. Collaborate with passionate individuals within dynamic and committed teams around shared objectives.
Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Payroll and Accounting Assistant is responsible for supervising the Payables Clerk and the Payroll Technician.
The employee must support the Director of Finance in the production of financial statements.
They will also need to implement control tools within the organization, collaborate on various accounting projects, and provide daily support to the Director of Finance.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform end-of-month activities (month-end closing in the software, trial balance, general ledger account analysis, reconciliation, etc.);
- Contribute to the preparation of annual budgets, in collaboration with the Director of Finance;
- Produce and distribute monthly budgets to the management;
- Support the Director of Finance in the analysis of monthly financial statements;
- Handle TPS and TVQ files;
- Participate in the preparation of end-of-year verification files (annual audit);
- Assist the management in all other related tasks and special projects;
- Supervise or complete the work of the Accounting Clerk responsible for accounts payable;
- Supervise or complete the work of the Payroll Technician (Salary increase file, submit payroll bi-monthly, calculations related to vacation and sick leave transfers, tax forms, payroll entries, salary reconciliation, etc.).
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent experience;
- Possession of a CPA title (an asset);
- At least 3 years of relevant experience (including payroll processing);
- Excellent written and spoken French skills and basic English knowledge;
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, Outlook, and accounting software;
- High sense of ethics and confidentiality;
- Initiative, autonomy, and resourcefulness;
- Excellent organizational and priority management skills in tight deadlines;
- Knowledge of OBNL specifics would be an asset.
Note that this position requires 4 days on-site / 1 day remote work.
Employment Type: Full-time, Fixed-term contract
Salary: $75,000.00 to $85,000.00 per year
