The Legal Technology Lawyer, AI Adoption position is a strategic and practical non-practicing lawyer role aimed at accelerating and supporting the concrete adoption of AI solutions and technologies. We are seeking lawyers with experience in corporate law or litigation.
Integrated into the practice groups' teams and coordinated by the Practice Knowledge and Innovation Management team, this role aims to make AI usable in everyday legal work by providing practical training, guidance, and real-time support on ongoing matters. Acting as a key regional resource, the person in this role will serve as a liaison for the practice and will be a familiar face at practice group meetings and a trusted resource for legal professionals.
This person will help lawyers use the relevant AI solutions and technologies from the firm for the practice area and their workflows. They will also help leverage AI and traditional legal technology tools to achieve the best possible results and provide advice on the available AI solutions at the firm to reduce time spent on administrative tasks.
This position requires technological skills and knowledge of legal workflows. It is ideal for someone who is creative and forward-thinking and wants to gradually combine legal knowledge, technology, and innovation.
Reporting to the Legal Technology and AI Activation Leader, this person will serve as a bridge between legal practice, innovation, and learning by working closely with the AI Training Counsel and other members of the Practice Knowledge and Innovation Management team and the Training and Development team.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a local resource and trusted peer for legal professionals in the relevant practice groups to guide local change management efforts and ensure the successful adoption of legal AI solutions and technologies.
- Attend practice group meetings, build relationships and credibility, communicate the benefits and overcome adoption obstacles by working closely with local practice teams to advance legal AI solutions and technologies that fit their way of working.
- Provide lawyers in the targeted practice groups with practical training, coaching, and real-time support on ongoing matters so they can integrate AI into their daily work in a practical and effective manner:
+ Facilitate immediate use of the firm's AI applications in key workflows through case-based training; + Offer office hours consultations and targeted coaching sessions to build confidence and accelerate adoption; + Provide support for using AI in ongoing matters, including troubleshooting and demonstrating how AI can improve workflows related to corporate law or litigation.
- Strengthen secure usage standards, quality expectations, and professional judgment in the use of AI to ensure alignment with firm-wide standards and governance.
- Collaborate with the AI Training Counsel and the Training and Development team to design and deliver practical, experience-based training programs.
- Collaborate with other legal technology lawyers supporting similar practice areas and with lawyers in Practice Knowledge and Innovation Management to:
- + Promote best practices and ensure consistency across the firm;
+ Identify high-value use cases in corporate law and litigation, as well as opportunities to increase efficiency, consistency, and value for clients through AI; + Capture and share lessons learned from ongoing matters to inform broader deployment, training, and continuous improvement across the firm; + Participate in the identification, design, and planning of the implementation of new or existing AI workflows, solutions, and technologies.
Required Knowledge and Experience
- At least three (3) years of experience in corporate law or litigation in a top-tier law firm.
- Strong analytical mind and ability to use logic to solve complex problems.
- Strong interest in legal technology, innovation, the practical application of AI in legal work, and the application of technical solutions to standardize legal processes. Affinity with general practice tools, general AI applications, and legal AI applications.
- Strong collaboration, communication, and influence skills; credibility with practicing lawyers combined with excellent organizational skills and a meticulous attention to detail. Ability to facilitate meetings, workshops, and training for groups of varying sizes.
- Curiosity, adaptability, and professional judgment to evaluate where AI adds value and where traditional legal reasoning remains crucial.
- LLB, BCL, or JD degree required; business degree or MBA, an asset. Member in good standing of the relevant provincial bar.
- Proficiency in French and English, an asset.
- Ability to balance competing demands, strong business judgment, and skills to work effectively, both as part of a team and independently.
Positions Available
We are seeking lawyers with experience in corporate law or litigation. Details of the positions available by region are provided below:
- Vancouver (1 litigation)
- Toronto (1 corporate law/ 1 litigation)
- Montreal (1 litigation)
- Johannesburg (1 corporate law/ litigation)
Internal employees may hold this position for one year and then return to their practice, if they wish.
Salary Range $140,000 to $185,000 per year. Salary will be determined based on experience.
