In this role, you’ll leverage your mining geotechnical expertise to guide complex and strategic projects. Your technical influence and leadership will steer multidisciplinary teams toward high-impact results for our mining clients.

WSP is seeking an experienced Mining Geotechnical Project Director to lead and oversee large-scale and/or complex geotechnical investigation projects. You will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing projects while ensuring the quality of deliverables and client satisfaction.

Your Impact

In this role, you’ll directly contribute to transformative projects for the mining industry.

Project Management

  • Manage the administrative and financial aspects of several large-scale projects.
  • Plan, organize, and direct complex geotechnical campaigns in the mining sector.
  • Ensure adherence to schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and subcontractors.
  • Prepare, review, and approve technical service proposals.
  • Ensure effective project management throughout the entire WSP production chain, from opportunity to closure.
  • Contribute to the development of business relationships with major mining clients.

Technical Leadership

  • Provide high-level technical leadership for major geotechnical projects.
  • Foster collaboration and synergy within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Participate in the development and management of geotechnical investigation programs (soils and rock).
  • Contribute to advanced geotechnical analyses, including numerical modeling and design calculations.
  • Write and review technical reports, notes, and opinions.
  • Participate in site visits and support the execution of work.
  • Contribute to technical innovation, expertise development, and knowledge transfer.
  • Serve as a mentor to junior and intermediate staff.

Client Relations

  • Maintain and develop strong relationships with internal and external clients.
  • Understand technical issues to propose suitable solutions.
  • Present and communicate technical results and recommendations.

Compliance and Safety

  • Ensure compliance with local, national, and international regulatory requirements.
  • Promote a safety and compliance culture.
  • Proactively manage technical and operational risks.

Qualifications That Set You Apart

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (geotechnical) or geological engineering.
  • Advanced studies in geotechnical engineering, mining, or dams (an asset).
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering, preferably in a mining environment.
  • Excellent French communication skills; English proficiency (an asset).
  • In good standing with the OIQ.
  • ASP Construction card.
  • Valid driver’s license and availability for occasional travel.
