Overview
Reporting directly to the Head of Customs Compliance and Operations, the Customs Operations Specialist (Canada) will be an integral part of the customs operations team. This person will work closely with all support services and channels to ensure the smooth deployment of cross-functional processes. The ideal candidate will be results-oriented, have a strong desire to learn, exhibit curiosity, and strive for continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Monitor daily operations and resolve issues by communicating with the customs broker and carriers.
- Produce reports on broker performance and recommend concrete improvements as needed.
- Propose new procedures to enhance the efficiency of daily operations within ALDO's interfunctional team, as needed.
- Ensure that all imported purchase orders have been declared to the ASFC.
- Perform monthly verification of B3 forms.
- Record adjustments in the Canadian registry.
- Submit adjustments and track their status.
- Develop, analyze, implement, and publish broker performance indicators.
- Maintain document retention archives in accordance with the Records Management Act.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with the finance team to document, analyze, and resolve discrepancies between provisions and paid duties for Canada.
- Prepare and transmit the import database to the Canadian customs broker.
- Prepare cross-border documents and transmit them to the carrier and customs broker.
- Record all cross-border shipments in the cross-border registry.
- Manage customs-related payments, including broker and carrier invoices as well as penalties.
- Process cross-border drawback requests, including preparing export and import databases.
Requirements
- College or university degree in a supply chain or customs-related program, an asset.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant customs experience.
- CCS certification (Certified Customs Specialist), an asset.
- Knowledge of the Canadian Customs Tariff and familiarity with import documents, including B3 forms.
- Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Excel (intermediate level required, advanced level an asset), Word, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, as well as a strong ability to adapt to change.
- Strong sense of initiative and problem-solving skills.
- Flexibility and ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work autonomously while being a strong team player with a desire to learn.
