Health Québec Est-de-l'Île-de-Montréal Universitaire includes 26 facilities and serves a population of over 500,000 Montrealers. Affiliated with the University of Montreal, it offers a comprehensive range of primary healthcare and social services, including housing services, general, specialized, and superspecialized hospital care, and mental health services.

Description Develop your professional future: receive a scholarship of up to $45,000 to practice psychotherapy

The Ministry of Health and Social Services (MHSS), in collaboration with Health Québec, is renewing this scholarship program to facilitate access to psychotherapy services within the health and social services network (HSSN). This program is intended for professionals with a master's degree in mental health and human relations who wish to complete the additional training required by the Order of Psychologists of Quebec to obtain their license to practice psychotherapy.

For the 2026-2027 academic year, Health Québec Est-de-l'Île-de-Montréal Universitaire has several scholarships worth $30,000 or $45,000 each, depending on the number of theoretical and practical training hours prescribed by the Order of Psychologists of Quebec.

Who can receive the scholarship?

This scholarship program is open to professionals holding a valid professional license in one of the following job titles:

• Occupational therapist;
• Criminologist;
• Clinical nurse or clinical nurse practitioner;
• Educational psychologist or educational psychologist;
• Social worker or social worker.

Qualifications Eligibility

• To be eligible, the candidate must:
• Hold Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status and reside in Quebec;
• Hold a master's degree in mental health and human relations from a recognized Quebec educational institution;
• Hold a valid professional license;
• Obtain a prescription from the OPQ authorizing the completion of the additional training and mandatory internship, up to a maximum of 600 hours, leading to a license to practice psychotherapy;
• Be selected by one of the Health Québec (HQ) facilities following the candidate selection process and commit to practicing psychotherapy as an authorized professional at the selected facility.

Note: You do not need to have received your prescription from the Order of Psychologists of Quebec (OPQ) to submit your application.

Reimbursed Fees

The MHSS will cover the fees for your application review by the Order of Psychologists of Quebec (OPQ) to determine your eligibility for the license to practice psychotherapy.

Selected candidates must submit their application to the OPQ only after receiving confirmation of their selection and submit their file no later than December 31, 2027.

Commitment

Selected individuals must:

• Complete the additional training and mandatory internship prescribed by the Order of Psychologists of Quebec (OPQ) and obtain the license to practice psychotherapy;
• Practice psychotherapy as an authorized professional at one of the Health Québec (HQ) facilities for a minimum of two (2) years, working a minimum of 28 hours per week;
• Provide proof of obtaining the license to practice psychotherapy from the Order of Psychologists of Quebec (OPQ) upon obtaining it.

• Proof of obtaining a master's degree in mental health and human relations;
• Copy of your valid professional license;
• Copy of the prescription for the required training by the Order of Psychologists of Quebec (OPQ), upon receipt;
• A letter of recommendation from your immediate supervisor, for internally employed individuals.
