We are recruiting a Project Manager, Research and Information to join our team at our Montreal office. The successful candidate must have a minimum of five years of relevant experience in legal or strategic research, project management, or strategic operations, ideally gained within a law firm or professional services environment, and will be responsible for the planning, management, and development of initiatives related to legal and strategic research, technology, and operational activities. Employees at McCarthy Tétrault benefit from a hybrid work environment. As a Project Manager, Research and Information, your tasks will include:
Project Planning and Execution of R&I Projects
- Plan and execute research, strategic watch, and technology projects that support the R&I team's objectives, the broader Client and Markets team, and the Firm's priorities.
- Develop and manage structured project plans and schedules, specifying deliverables, related work, individual responsibilities, and coordination needs between teams.
- Collaborate with R&I team managers, partners, senior leadership, internal clients, and cross-functional stakeholders to support alignment, engagement, and adoption of initiatives.
- Manage initiatives from request receipt and scope definition to implementation and evaluation, including appropriate governance, reporting, and post-project review.
- Support the improvement of media monitoring activities, legal and legislative alerts, and competitive intelligence reports by evaluating appropriate technological tools and AI solutions and ensuring the development of practical solutions.
- Foster communication, adoption, and change management to drive buy-in and ensure the continuous implementation of assigned initiatives.
Strategic Analysis, AI, and Continuous Improvement
- Evaluate and support the adoption of AI-powered research tools and processes, in collaboration with R&I service managers.
- Prepare and summarize sectoral, legal, commercial, and competitive trends to draw clear insights and formulate practical recommendations that can be presented to leadership.
- Ensure that priorities, scope, and deliverables align with the R&I service's strategic plan, team objectives, and the evolving needs of the Firm's lawyers.
- Prepare analyses, performance indicators, tracking documents, and supporting materials to support project planning, adoption, and continuous improvement.
Interpersonal Relations and Change Management
- Facilitate discussions, foster alignment, and manage change to support effective collaboration between teams and other stakeholders.
- Contribute to the development of the team's project and process management skills by sharing best practices, knowledge transfer, and participation in training and development activities.
Technologies, Data, and Electronic Resources
- Manage projects related to technological tools, data analysis, performance indicators, and reports to support operational efficiency, budgeting, and evolving business needs.
- Contribute to the selection, evaluation, deployment, and review of research and analysis resources, in close collaboration with R&I managers and team members as well as other functional group members.
- The ideal candidate will stand out with the following profile:
- Master's degree in information science, LL.B./J.D., or equivalent degree in a related field.
- MBA or project management certification, such as PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent, an asset.
- At least five years of relevant experience in legal or strategic research, project management, or strategic operations, ideally gained within a law firm or professional services environment.
- Demonstrated expertise in managing complex and cross-functional projects autonomously.
- Experience in implementing project tracking, reporting, performance indicators, and process improvements.
- Ability to analyze data, trends, and market issues to formulate practical recommendations.
- Strong organizational and priority management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects in a dynamic environment.
- Experience in evaluating vendors, resources, or solutions, an asset.
- Advanced proficiency in generative AI, Excel, PowerPoint, and watch platforms.
- Knowledge of financial and business platforms, such as Comp BI, Aderant, and Salesforce, an asset.
