The Franchise Specialist is part of a national team responsible for leveraging local market expertise to support the profitable growth of the Bank's franchise portfolio in the region and to develop the acquisition of new clients.
In this role, you will acquire new client relationships in the franchising sector by mobilizing local franchisees, COIs (Influence Centers) serving this segment, as well as Scotiabank partners and associations with a presence in the local market. You will be responsible for achieving negotiated goals established by the national director, including business acquisition and development in the market, growth in assets, deposits, and revenues, as well as other customer service-related objectives.
The ideal candidate has experience in business banking and commercial banking services, with demonstrated sales results. We are looking for a person passionate about networking and strong in building relationships that lead to successful business growth.
This role includes a significant component of business development, and a vehicle will be required.
Is this role for you? In this role, you:
- Foster a customer-centric culture to strengthen relationships and leverage the Bank's internal relationships, systems, and knowledge.
- Acquire new relationships with franchise business owners and develop existing ones to achieve—or help partners achieve—sales goals and others, by:
+ Planning and executing relationship-building activities that generate sales opportunities or add value to clients, including following market trends and practices in the franchising sector; + Identifying prospects through various channels, including soliciting recommendations from existing clients, collaborating with Scotiabank partners and COIs, developing a network of business contacts in the community, and participating in marketing or training seminars; + Collaborating with virtual advisors in franchise banking services for the onboarding of new franchise clients; + Detecting clients' commercial and personal banking needs/preferences; + Proactively collaborating with the wealth management advisor to offer a complete solutions approach (loans, payments, and placements—commercial and personal); + Assisting and advising Scotiabank partners on marketing tactics, as well as structuring and concluding high-value franchising transactions when possible; + Responding to commercial banking solution requests by gathering relevant information, processing requests, and performing due diligence as needed; + Negotiating the compensation for financial products and services, according to the Bank's policies; + Informing the client about the next steps, service installation timelines, providing necessary instructions, and ensuring everything is set up as planned.
- Develop the assigned local commercial banking portfolio—including high-value franchise clients, COIs, and associations—to ensure substantial growth and achieve negotiated goals, while adhering to the Bank's service standards, by:
+ Developing and maintaining in-depth knowledge of the local franchise market, including the nature and evolution of high-value franchises, their financial position and structure, and the conditions of the financial services used; + Providing specialized franchising and business/finance advice to increase the chances of success for business owners; + Developing and maintaining business relationships with COIs, including influential clients and internal and external recommendation sources.
- Acquire a credit portfolio from the market at an acceptable risk level, by:
+ Working closely with the credit approval team and the EO Franchising team for case processing; + Preparing or ensuring all documents are correctly prepared.
- Contribute to the financial and non-financial goals of the assigned market, by:
+ Developing an understanding of the Business Banking Services sector goals and how to contribute to them; + Strictly adhering to the Bank and branch's security procedures, assigned authorities and responsibilities, and reporting any unusual occurrences or fraudulent activity as soon as they are detected; + Complying with regulatory requirements, including confidentiality, AML/ATF, CDIC, health and safety at work, etc.; + Understanding how the Bank's appetite for risk and risk culture should be taken into account in daily activities and decisions; + Ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of your sector's operations, while maintaining the adequacy and effectiveness of daily operational controls, including operational, regulatory, AML/ATF, and conduct risks, in accordance with applicable management frameworks.

Do You Have The Skills Needed To Succeed In This Role? We Would Like To Work With You If You Have:
- Post-secondary education: university/college courses in accounting, finance, business law, and economics, or equivalent experience.
- Experience in the franchising sector (training or professional experience).
- Knowledge of the characteristics and benefits of commercial banking products and services, sales approaches, tools, and calculators.
- Local market expertise and proven knowledge of the franchising segment in that market.
- Knowledge of applicable commercial banking platforms and software, including ACE, GRM, Sales Builder, Intralink, etc.
- Knowledge of applicable risk management policies and processes.
- Knowledge of legal and security documents.
- In-depth knowledge of solicitation, marketing, and business development techniques.
- Knowledge of branch operations, processes, and workflows.
- In-depth knowledge of corporate legal structures, their lifecycle, and owner profiles.
- In-depth knowledge of corporate financial statements, particularly in the franchising sector.
- Knowledge of retail products and services.
- Knowledge of other sector/partner offerings (Business Banking Services, Wealth Management, Commercial Banking Services, Business Solutions).
- Knowledge of competitors' offerings and alternative funding sources.
- Ability to establish and maintain key relationships, as well as the capacity to influence and persuade others.
- Skills in tactical planning, implementation, and organization.
- Great flexibility to adapt to a variety of tasks and functions.
- Working Conditions
A standard office environment is provided; however, the role holder will spend 90% of their time outside the office, working with the sales team in branches, commercial banking offices, client/prospect facilities, on marketing activities, client interviews, trade shows, COI events, etc.
Client requests are constant and sometimes outside regular business hours.
In addition to French, the role holder must also have sufficient English proficiency, as the work involves regularly interacting and collaborating with groups and individuals based in Toronto, as well as constantly interacting with others, including clients, who speak English, locally and elsewhere.
