Description

The pediatric audiology team at the outpatient clinics, in interdisciplinary collaboration, serves a mostly 0 to 7-year-old clientele, including suspected hearing loss, medical histories that may affect hearing, or communication development difficulties.

They provide complete hearing evaluations for children, produce reports, and issue clinical recommendations. The team refers to internal and external partners as needed for medical, speech therapy, or rehabilitation follow-up, and contributes to family education on the importance of screening and hearing follow-up.

Audiologists also participate in specialized clinics, such as the neonatal follow-up clinic and the development clinic.

Summary of Functions

Under the supervision of the head of the department, the audiologist evaluates the child's auditory functions and auditory perception skills using age- and ability-appropriate specialized tests. They interpret the results, determine an intervention plan, and implement it to promote optimal communication and language development.

Through their professional activities, they contribute to early detection and management of hearing disorders, interact with the child and family to explain the results, impacts, and recommendations, and collaborate with network partners to ensure service continuity.

The audiologist works in an interdisciplinary context, closely collaborating with speech therapists, pediatricians, ENT specialists, and other interveners involved in the child's development follow-up.

Qualifications

• Hold a master's degree in audiology;
• Be a member of the Professional Order of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists of Quebec.
