Two student jobs are available at 2700, rue Einstein in Quebec.

The start date is scheduled for August, for the fall 2026 session, at a rate of 14 hours per week.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forests (MRNF) manages Quebec's public forests. It is responsible for protecting forests from forest pests (fires, insects, and diseases). The Forest Pest Management Service conducts surveys of insects and tree diseases in Quebec. To carry out this survey, forest protection technicians visit a vast network of stations across the entire Quebec territory to detect harmful insects and pathogenic fungi. These samples are processed at the diagnostic laboratory and the Quebec Insect Collection (CIQ) for identification and conservation purposes.

What awaits you on a daily basis

• Sort insects from the EEE detection network by family.
• Enter capture data into the Oracle database.
• Contribute to the naturalization of insects (mounting, identification, drying, and labeling).
• Collaborate on insect classification.
• Perform visual inspection of the CIQ.
• Carry out any other related tasks (specimen restoration, classification in the compactus, etc.).
• Compensation

We offer you a minimum hourly rate of $24.07. A 6.5% surcharge is added to this rate to compensate for certain social benefits.

Schedule

In addition to working during the day, Monday to Friday, the job allows for a flexible schedule, promoting the balance between your work, studies, and personal life, with adapted hours:

• Regular schedule of 14 hours/week during study sessions;
• Schedule of 21 hours/week during reading weeks;
• Schedule of 35 hours/week during the summer period and the Christmas break.

To hold a student position in the public service, you must be enrolled full-time in a college-level (or part-time if you are in the penultimate or final session of your studies) program in the field of laboratory techniques or bioecology techniques.

More specifically, we are looking for a motivated student, eager to learn, and who demonstrates:

• Great attention to detail, patience, good dexterity, curiosity, and a scientific mindset.
• The ability to work in accordance with the standards of an entomological collection, work according to established norms, and respect confidentiality.
• Mastery of the main computer tools (Office suite).
• The ability to work as part of a team.
• Additionally, this person must:
• Have appropriate knowledge of French for the duties of the position.
• Be legally authorized or authorized to work in Canada.
