ABOUT THE POSITION
Yellow Brick Games is seeking a Senior Technical Animator to oversee the design, implementation, and evolution of gameplay animation systems. Acting as a bridge between the Animation, Design, and Programming teams, you will transform creative ideas into fluid and high-quality gaming experiences, ensuring our animation pipeline remains performant, scalable, and user-friendly.
You will play a key role in how characters move, react, and come to life in-game. To achieve this, you will develop robust animation systems, bring your technical expertise to the animation team, and contribute to the continuous improvement of tools and workflows throughout production.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee the implementation and long-term evolution of gameplay animation systems in Unreal Engine.
- Design, develop, and evolve Animation Blueprints, State Machines, Blend Spaces, Animation Montages, and other runtime animation systems.
- Collaborate closely with the Game Designers team to ensure animation systems support gameplay intentions, control responsiveness, and game feel.
- Work with animators to translate artistic vision into robust, scalable, and maintainable technical solutions while preserving animation quality and style.
- Collaborate with programmers to integrate new features and address technical challenges related to animation.
- Develop reusable frameworks, tools, and workflows to improve production efficiency and simplify animation implementation.
- Identify friction points in the animation pipeline and propose continuous improvements to production processes.
- Diagnose and resolve animation-related issues, their integration into the game, and their runtime, while maintaining a balance between quality, performance, and ease of maintenance.
- Produce documentation for animation systems, technical workflows, and best practices, and contribute to the team's technical skill development through mentorship and knowledge sharing.
- Push animation quality to the highest possible level while respecting performance constraints.
- Collaborate with various disciplines to ensure seamless integration of animation systems with gameplay, AI, camera, and other game systems.
REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in Gameplay Animation, Technical Animation, Technical Design, or a similar role in video game development.
- Excellent understanding of gameplay animation principles and their impact on player experience and game feel.
- Professional experience in implementing gameplay animation systems with Unreal Engine.
- Strong proficiency in Animation Blueprints, State Machines, Blend Spaces, Animation Montages, and animation graphs.
- Experience with animation pipelines and DCC software such as Maya and/or MotionBuilder.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly for diagnosing complex gameplay animation issues.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills within multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to take ownership of systems, set priorities, and manage workload efficiently.
- Strong interest in the continuous improvement of tools, workflows, and production processes.
ASSETS
- Experience with Control Rig.
- Experience with Motion Matching, Full Body IK, procedural animation, or other modern animation techniques.
- Experience in developing tools or automation using Blueprints, Python, or other scripting languages.
- Knowledge of the Gameplay Ability System (GAS) or other gameplay frameworks.
- Participation in the development of at least one commercialized AAA game.
- Experience with C++.
- Proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
