The Commercial Analyst plays a crucial role at Air Canada Vacations (VAC) by acting as the main liaison between business stakeholders, operations teams, IT delivery teams, and external partners. The person holding the position is responsible for collecting, analyzing, documenting, validating, and managing business and functional requirements to support the successful implementation of technology and operational solutions aligned with VAC’s strategy, its regulatory obligations, and its operational priorities. Within the Information Technology services, they contribute to initiatives touching on core operations, digital platforms, data, customer experience, and enterprise systems, ensuring that solutions are fit-for-purpose, scalable, compliant, and user-adopted.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Business Analysis and Requirements Management
- Lead structured needs collection activities (interviews, workshops, process and data analyses) with business owners, subject matter experts, and users.
- Document business, functional, non-functional, and regulatory requirements using VAC’s standardized tools and models.
- Ensure complete traceability of requirements, from collection to design, implementation, testing, and deployment.
- Identify dependencies, constraints, risks, and assumptions early in the development cycle.
- Contribute to the development of profitability analyses, problem descriptions, and solution proposals.
- Delivery and Execution Support
- Act as the key contact and collaborate closely with project managers, product owners, technical teams, and vendors throughout the delivery cycle.
- Ensure alignment between business sponsors, operational teams, and technical partners.
- Participate in refining backlog items, defining use cases, developing acceptance criteria, and organizing sprints, as applicable.
- Participate in system testing, integration testing, and user acceptance testing, validating test scenarios, and contributing to defect analysis.
- Ensure that delivered solutions meet approved requirements and business objectives.
- Knowledge of processes covering the entire travel lifecycle, such as booking, modifications, cancellations, reassignments, ancillary services, and client communication.
- Ensure that vendor solutions meet VAC’s requirements, standards, and expectations.
- Experience in collaborating with external technology vendors, systems integrators, and SaaS (software-as-a-service) solution providers specializing in travel and booking platforms.
- Change Management and Adoption
- Collaborate with stakeholders to support organizational transformations (processes, roles, and work methods).
- Contribute to change impact analyses, training materials, communications, and operational readiness activities.
- Act as a resource person for business teams during the transition to new systems or processes.
- Stakeholder and Vendor Collaboration
- Ensure liaison between VAC’s business units, IT teams, and external vendors.
- Foster alignment between sponsors, operational teams, and technical delivery partners.
- Ensure that solutions delivered by vendors meet VAC’s requirements, standards, and expectations.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, information technology, management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a commercial analyst or in a similar role in information technology or operations.
- Demonstrated experience in collecting and documenting requirements for complex, multidisciplinary initiatives.
- Experience in collaborating with technical teams and external vendors to deliver business solutions.
- Excellent understanding of commercial analysis methods, tools, and best practices.
- Bilingualism (English and French) is mandatory.
Bonus / Desired
- Experience in the travel, travel agency, airline, or cruise sectors, or in complex operational environments with high transaction volumes.
- Proficiency in travel agency, airline, and cruise reservation systems, including booking platforms, inventory management, pricing, scheduling, ticketing, or customer service systems.
- Experience with real-time reservation, distribution, and processing systems operating in high-availability environments.
