Take charge of Canadian indirect tax compliance within a global organization
Are you a CPA or a professional accountant with solid experience in Canadian indirect taxation and regulatory compliance?
CGI is looking for a senior analyst, indirect taxation to join its Corporate Finance Services team. In this strategic role, you will be the main responsible for Canadian indirect tax compliance for several legal entities, ensuring the accuracy and timely submission of GST, HST, PST, and QST declarations. You will collaborate closely with finance, tax, audit, and business units both in Canada and internationally.
This is an excellent opportunity for an independent person who enjoys solving complex accounting and tax challenges while making a concrete impact within a collaborative global financial organization.
This position is a 15-month maternity leave replacement contract, including a full knowledge transfer period to allow the selected person to acquire the necessary expertise before fully assuming the responsibilities of the position.
As the principal specialist in Canadian indirect taxation within the Finance team, you will be responsible for indirect tax compliance for several Canadian legal entities. This role requires an independent person, capable of demonstrating strong professional judgment and managing compliance activities with confidence, while collaborating closely with Finance, Tax, Audit teams, and various business partners.
Although this is a fixed-term contract for maternity leave replacement, the selected person may be considered for future career opportunities at CGI, depending on the company's needs.
Your impact
As an expert in Canadian indirect taxation, you will ensure compliance with federal and provincial tax requirements while contributing to financial compliance initiatives and regulatory reporting.
You will work closely with finance teams, tax specialists, auditors, and government agencies to ensure the accuracy of declarations, strengthen internal controls, and continuously improve financial processes.
What you will do
- Ensure Canadian indirect tax compliance
Prepare, review, and produce monthly GST, HST, PST, and QST declarations for several Canadian legal entities.
Ensure the accuracy and timely submission of indirect tax declarations and tax filings.
Reconcile general ledger accounts related to sales taxes.
Prepare and post related journal entries.
Analyze and resolve discrepancies related to taxes and accounting reconciliations.
Act as an expert in indirect taxation
Be the main resource for all questions related to Canadian sales taxes.
Collaborate with finance teams on tax issues.
Support provincial and federal tax audits.
Ensure monitoring of legislative changes affecting indirect taxation.
Collaborate with external auditors and government agencies, as needed.
Support financial compliance
Participate in the preparation of statutory financial statements.
Contribute to SOX compliance and internal control activities.
Prepare withholding tax calculations and corresponding journal entries.
Collaborate with international finance teams in the context of regulatory reporting initiatives.
Contribute to continuous improvement
Identify opportunities to automate and optimize tax and accounting processes.
Recommend improvements to reduce risks and increase the accuracy of processes.
Participate in financial function transformation initiatives within the organization.
What we are looking for
- Required qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related discipline.
CPA title or equivalent accounting qualification, a significant asset.
Excellent knowledge of Canadian indirect taxation (GST, HST, PST, and QST).
Experience in preparing and producing Canadian sales tax declarations.
Good understanding of accounting principles and general ledger account reconciliations.
Experience in preparing journal entries.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong organizational and priority management skills.
Ability to manage multiple files simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
Excellent communication and stakeholder relationship management skills.
Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
