TECHNICAL COORDINATOR (LABORATORY) - DSI - LOCAL SERVICE POINTS AND SOUTH COLLECTION CENTER

Mandate

Medical technologist or medical technician with a degree in medical laboratory technology who, while performing technical analyses or tasks within a clinical laboratory or medical biology, regularly oversees, trains, and coordinates the activities of others.

They may be responsible for the proper functioning of analysis methods and procedures, as well as the statistical compilation of analysis results for quality control or any other information necessary for the proper functioning of the laboratory.

Responsibilities

• Biological analyses, sampling, and specimen processing
• Performs biological sampling (blood, urine, or other) according to procedures, protocols, and quality standards in effect;
• Prepares, identifies, processes, and conditions specimens to ensure their conformity and integrity from collection to shipment or analysis;
• Respects pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical conditions required for each type of examination;
• Technical coordination and service support
• Coordinates technical activities in the screening and sampling sector, ensuring the efficient organization of daily operations;
• Oversees, trains, and supports medical technologists and team members regarding analysis methods and laboratory best practices;
• Participates in staff integration and skill maintenance through demonstrations, mentoring, and continuous support;
• Ensures vigilance of schedules and updates entry in the scheduling management software in collaboration with the manager, immediate supervisor's assistant, and replacement activities;
• Contributes to the development, updating, and application of clinical procedures and protocols;
• Ensures the availability and accessibility of appointment slots according to available human resources and established procedures;
• Supports, guides, and advises staff in problem and conflict resolution;
• Ensures effective and harmonious communication of relevant elements to their function among service members and all other organization stakeholders;
• Participates in all meetings, committees, or workgroups for which their presence is required, at the request of their immediate supervisor;
• Compiles statistical units in various tools according to established procedures;
• Ensures the availability of medical, clerical, and immunizing products according to established procedures;
• Quality control and result validity assurance
• Conducts internal and external quality controls required to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and traceability of results;
• Collaborates in the continuous improvement of analytical processes and the maintenance of standards in effect in the laboratory;
• Compiles analysis result statistics and monitors them to ensure compliance and support decision-making;
• Interdisciplinary collaboration and team support
• Works closely with the healthcare team to ensure the proper conduct of screenings, sampling, and result tracking;
• Participates in the improvement of professional practices and the updating of protocols;
• Acts as a resource person for technical interpretation, problem-solving related to analyses, and coordination of required follow-ups;
• Follows up with different partners as needed;
• Vaccination and administration of care
• Prepares equipment and materials for the administration of immunizing products, according to protocols and asepsis rules;
• Administers immunizing products according to established directives and protocols, respecting asepsis rules and appropriate injection techniques;
• Observes the user after the administration of a vaccine and reports any signs of reaction or undesirable effect to the responsible nurse;
• Contributes to the maintenance of the cold chain and proper storage of immunizing products;

Education and user support

• Participates in teaching users and their caregivers regarding:
• Self-sampling: procedures, precautions, conservation;
• Self-administration of a prescribed product, including pre-analytical modalities;
• Side effects and undesirable effects of products, to ensure informed and free consent;
• Recommendations following a blood sampling.
• Reassures the user, answers their questions, and refers to the nurse complex needs or specific inquiries.
• Participates in peer orientation and supervision of interns.
• Health prevention and promotion
• Contributes to the sensitization of the population on the importance of vaccination and prevention measures, supporting information campaigns and sharing key messages with the clientele.
• Applies prevention and infection control measures (PCI) at all times.
• Documentation and administrative support
• Uses technological tools to document interventions and ensure rigorous tracking of clinical activities.
• Maintains files in accordance with professional standards to ensure the safety, quality, and continuity of care.
• Performs any other related task at the request of their immediate supervisor.

Requirements

• Must hold a college diploma (DEC) in biomedical analysis technology from a recognized school by the competent ministry.
• Must be a member of the Professional Order of Medical Technologists of Quebec (OPTMQ).
