Scholarships for Remote Regions - 2026/2027

Certain professional and technical jobs are difficult to fill in health and social services establishments in some regions of Quebec. In order to facilitate the hiring of personnel in these fields, the health and social services network offers scholarships to students in the relevant programs for the last year or the last two years of their university or technical training.

The Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS) thus wishes to increase the pool of certain professionals and technicians in the health and social services network (RSSS) establishments located in remote regions, in order to meet the needs identified by these establishments.

Health Quebec North Shore is one of the establishments targeted by this scholarship program.

These scholarships are offered for college and university studies leading to the following jobs:

• social worker;
• psychologist;
• clinical nurse (initial bachelor's degree);
• psychoeducator;
• human relations agent;
• ergotherapist;
• physiotherapist;
• audiologist;
• social work technician;
• occupational health and safety technician;
• dietetics technician;
• dietitian-nutritionist;
• medical archivist;
• medical imaging technologist in radiodiagnostic;
• medical electrophysiology technologist;
• inhalotherapy technician;
• speech-language pathologist.

Other job titles may be added to this list, provided that they are identified as being in great difficulty within the context of workforce planning and that the initial training to practice these jobs is not offered in the remote region targeted.

Scholarships Awarded

For the 2026-2027 year, the MSSS funds 133 scholarships of $30,000 available over two years:

• 66 regional scholarships are reserved for the psychosocial sector, i.e., for the job titles of social worker, psychologist, psychoeducator, criminologist, sexologist, and human relations agent;
• 67 regional scholarships are available for the other sectors, i.e., for the job titles of ergotherapist, physiotherapist, audiologists, speech-language pathologist, etc.;
• the student who applies for a scholarship for their last year of studies will benefit from a scholarship of $15,000;
• the student who applies for a scholarship for their last two years of studies will benefit from a scholarship of $30,000, paid in two installments of $15,000.

For each of the scholarships awarded, the MSSS contribution is $12,000 and the contribution of the sponsoring establishment is $3,000.

Admissibility

All candidates wishing to obtain a scholarship under this program must:

• hold Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status;
• be enrolled and accepted in a full-time study program and pursue the entire program on a full-time basis. It is noted that the program must not be offered on the North Shore;
• submit an application before starting the last year or the last two years of their training;
• provide proof of vaccination coverage as prescribed at the time of their internship in the RSSS establishment, if applicable, as well as at the time of their employment by the establishment.

Scholarship Requirement

In return for the scholarship, the candidate agrees to meet the needs of the sponsoring establishment, in accordance with the local provisions of the collective agreements, and this, from the end of the training program for which they received a scholarship for a minimum of three (3) years.

Submission of Applications

Scholarship applications must be submitted directly to the program administration managers in the establishments where the student wishes to work. The deadline is September 9, 2026, 6 PM.

All candidates wishing to obtain a scholarship must submit a complete file:

• a recent curriculum vitae;
• a letter attesting to their enrollment in the study program and issued by the university or college;
• proof of full-time student status;
• a copy of the most recent official transcript;
• a letter explaining their motivation for applying.
