Company Description
Based in Montreal, Detroit, and Munich, Vention helps manufacturers automate their operations in record time with the only hardware and software AI-powered platform built for the factory floor. Our technology powers over 25,000 machines across 4,000 factories across 5 continents, and we have the privilege of working with a significant proportion of Fortune 500 manufacturers, from space rockets to electric cars, to robotics.
At Vention, you’ll work alongside driven and talented people who care deeply about their craft and the impact they create. We’re a team of high achievers who grow through meaningful work, solving complex challenges, learning fast, and seeing the results of our efforts every day.
We move quickly and aim high, but we do it together with care, collaboration, and respect. Our culture celebrates diverse perspectives and supports your growth through intentional development, strong leadership, and opportunities to make a real difference.
What You’ll Do
- Detailed Design Execution: Perform detailed mechanical design for custom automation systems. Translate scoping inputs into complete, production-ready designs using Vention's platform and third-party software suites (SolidWorks).
- BOM Generation & Release: Generate accurate Bills of Materials (BOM) and release designs for production. Manage revision cycles and maintain design integrity throughout the project lifecycle.
- Project Documentation: Produce the full suite of project documentation required for production and customer handoff, including Assembly Sequence Diagrams (ASD), layout drawings, assembly instructions, and spare parts lists.
- Operations Work Packages: Create detailed operations work packages that enable the assembly team to build systems efficiently and to specification.
- Sourcing & Quoting: Coordinate final quoting with third-party suppliers for non-standard components, supporting the sourcing phase to ensure design intent is met within budget constraints.
- Test Plan Design: Collaborate with project managers to design test plans for key subsystems, defining acceptance criteria and validation procedures prior to construction and test phases.
- Construction & Test Support: Provide hands-on technical support during the assembly of subcomponents, mechanical installation, electrical installation, and testing. Act as the design authority on the floor and troubleshoot issues in real-time.
- Design Problem Resolution: Take ownership of the end-to-end design problem resolution process: find solutions, implement design changes, order replacement parts, and update documentation to reflect the final configuration.
- Maintenance Documentation: Create comprehensive maintenance documentation to help customers operate and maintain their systems post-delivery.
- Training & Pre-Sales Feedback Loop: Maintain a continuous feedback loop with solution architects and pre-sales engineers. Train pre-sales engineers on best practices for design, common failure modes, and lessons learned from delivered projects.
- PLM Feedback Loop: Provide structured feedback to the PLM process to improve standard components, assemblies, and design guidelines.
What You Bring to the Team

+ Demonstrated ability to take a machine design from scoping data to a published, production-ready package.
+ Strong knowledge of the industrial automation industry and post-sales project execution process.
+ Experience in creating and managing BOMs, assembly sequences, and complete project documentation packages.
+ Practical experience in supporting the assembly, installation, and commissioning of automated systems.
+ Experience with SolidWorks and a PLM system, a plus.
+ Comfortable collaborating cross-functionally with operations, supply chain, pre-sales, and field teams.
+ Member of the Order of Engineers of Quebec, a plus.
