Under the Special Tools and Methods Manager, the Special Tools Engineer participates in the design of installation, machining, disassembly, handling, and lifting tools. Participates in the design of specialized tools related to recent or ongoing project submissions.
Responsibilities
- Analyze technical information (technical specifications, scope of work, work breakdown);
- Responsible for the design of special tools for on-site assembly according to project planning and budgets while considering the EHS aspect;
- Plan the tool design phase, ensure tracking, and coordinate with the project team;
- Participate in design reviews of various projects to ensure design compliance with field installation methods;
- Optimize tool or machine design to improve installation times;
- Prepare and supervise the execution of technical drawings;
- Write engineering reports and documents, including test procedures, technical calculation notes, and maintenance manuals;
- Provide technical support to the supply chain and participate in technical support for field assembly teams;
- Validate costs of procedures and tools during the tender phase with other Construction & Commissioning team members;
- Responsible for deliverables and budgets within the scope of assigned projects.
Qualifications / Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, with a minimum of 2 to 7 years of relevant experience;
- Member of the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec, at least as a junior;
- Communication in French and English is mandatory;
- Knowledge of Safety Standards for Material Handling and Lifting Equipment (OSHA) B30.20 is a plus;
- Knowledge of welding and machining is an asset;
- Ability to work in a team and communicate effectively;
- Must be willing to undergo pre-employment screening, including but not limited to reference and background checks;
- Must have the authorization to work without restriction in Canada;
- Willing to travel and make temporary assignments in North America.
Desired Characteristics
- Passion for mechanical design and the hydroelectric domain;
- Knowledge of calculation methods related to material resistance, finite element simulation, metallurgy, and welding are assets for this job;
- 3D Drawing NX;
- Intermediate knowledge of SmartSheet and Excel.
The salary range for this position is $75,700 to $125,699.
