This position is to be filled within Valeurs Mobilières Banque Laurentienne, a subsidiary of Banque Laurentienne du Canada.
The incumbent is responsible for negotiating and managing repo and reverse repo operations to ensure effective financing of fixed-income securities inventories and the optimization of the organization's liquidity. In the course of their duties, the person collaborates closely with fixed-income securities trading, treasury, risk management, and operations teams to ensure effective management of positions, collateral, and financing needs. They also contribute to identifying opportunities to improve the profitability of financing and securities lending activities.
Responsibilities
- Negotiates and executes repo and reverse repo operations to optimize financing, liquidity, and balance sheet utilization.
- Maintains close relationships with counterparties as well as with middle-office, back-office, treasury, and risk management teams to ensure operational efficiency.
- Constantly monitors liquidity, financing, leverage, and risk limits while ensuring compliance with internal and regulatory policies.
- Monitors inventories, collateral, and counterparty exposures to protect capital and optimize desk profitability.
- Ensures rigorous tracking of transactions and contributes to the rapid resolution of operational discrepancies or issues.
- Actively participates in strategic projects, committees, and continuous improvement initiatives related to liquidity, balance sheet, regulation, and operational efficiency.
- Keeps up-to-date with market knowledge, financing practices, and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in mathematics, finance, statistics, engineering, computer science, or related field.
- Completed or in progress master's degree: an asset.
- Three (3) years of experience at the trading level.
- CFA: an asset.
- The following courses from the Canadian Securities Institute (CSI) are required:
- Canadian Investment Regulatory Exam (CIRE) + Canadian Securities Regulation Exam (ERVMC)
Institutional Securities Exam + Institutional Securities Exam.
- Strong applied mathematics and complex problem-solving skills.
- Ability to analyze data and develop quantitative models.
- Excellent programming skills.
- Proficiency in French and English.
- Professional proficiency in French and English is required as the position requires frequent written and oral communications on complex issues with internal and external parties in both languages.
