The Building Envelope Project Director is responsible for the expertise and restoration/renovation of existing building vertical envelope systems. This role will also involve working on new construction projects, participating in the Building Envelope Commissioning process. As a Building Envelope Consultant, the Building Science team works on a wide variety of project types with clients in the residential, institutional, commercial, and industrial sectors. You will direct the resources of the team assigned to you, and communicate with clients and contractors in the context of diagnostic studies and/or active construction sites. You will work from our offices in the Greater Montreal area in a hybrid mode and will have the support of the GHD network of offices across Canada and other countries.

Several locations available: Downtown Montreal (PVM), Saint-Laurent, Laval, or Brossard

You will be supported by a multidisciplinary team consisting of team leaders, project managers, project coordinators, site technicians, certified thermographers, and other professionals.

As part of a young and dynamic team specialized in the field of building science, this position will require you to demonstrate the following skills:

• Technical Studies: Writing and supervising technical study reports;
• Engineering Standards Specifications:

+ Existing Projects: Reviewing, or writing technical deliverables (drawings and estimates) within the framework of existing building renovation projects.

+ New Construction Projects: Knowing and participating in the establishment of criteria, standards, types of tests, and control protocols from the project design stage.

• Engineering Inspections: Monitoring the qualitative control of construction or rehabilitation work during implementation. Participate in the facade inspection mandate quinquennial;
• Engineering Expertise: Act as a Building Envelope Consultant to ensure performance and durability, including for disputes. Analyze the physical condition of buildings, as a technico-legal evaluation expert for existing projects;
• Building Envelope Commissioning Agent: Ensure the role of Building Envelope Commissioning Agent for the different stages of the Building Envelope Commissioning process, participate in the writing and review of technical study reports throughout the project, and other technical deliverables (daily reports and test reports);
• Contract Management: Administrative management of contracts for building rehabilitation or construction projects. Clearly define the limits of the mandates upstream and coordinate any potential subcontractors.
• Client Management: Meetings with clients, follow-up on requests, including the preparation of service offers;
• Project and Team Management: Responsible for planning, collaboration, execution, tracking of budget and deadlines within the framework of the mandates entrusted. Ensure the availability of staff and supervise the work of collaborators;
• SSE: Follow corporate requirements regarding the health and safety of employees under your supervision and the quality control of the company;
• Personal Capacity Building: Develop your own skills by participating in evaluation and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching; obtain or maintain external professional accreditations, if applicable, to improve your performance and realize your personal potential. Maintain an in-depth understanding of technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through continuous training, participation in conferences, and reading specialized media.

To succeed in this position, you will need to have the following skills and qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Building Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or Architecture;
• More than 10 years of experience in the field of building science;
• Member of the Order of Engineers of Quebec or the Order of Architects of Quebec;
• Experience in preparing facade inspection reports and/or multi-level parking (according to Law 122 of the Régie du bâtiment du Québec);
• In-depth knowledge of construction materials and construction processes for the design and/or repair of the building envelope;
• Experience in estimating repair costs;
• Knowledge of the different stages of the Building Envelope Commissioning process;
• Experience with technical and technico-legal expertise on building envelopes;
• Holding a LEED or BECx certification will be considered an asset;
• Good knowledge of the National Building Code;
• In-depth technical knowledge of the main concepts, systems, tests, and standards related to building envelopes in Canada;
• Ease with client relations and professional judgment (sense of organization, management of expectations and client approach, establishing priorities, management of deliverables vs established budget, etc.);
• Experience in preparing proposals and service offers;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills;
• Appetite for teamwork with the ability to delegate and mentor junior staff;
• Good computer skills and proficiency with technology (Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, OneDrive, OneNote);
• Hold the ASP Construction card;
• Valid driver’s license and vehicle;
• Experience in building evaluations (PCA) for clients wishing to know the condition of their buildings (Property Condition Assessment) will be considered an asset;
• Heat transfer simulation skills and condensation risk assessment (THERM, WUFI etc. software) will be considered an asset.
