Your responsibilities as an Assistant Grocery Manager

  • Execute the directives of the Grocery Manager regarding work assignment, purchasing and receiving goods, scheduling employees, department order and discipline, etc.
  • Replace the Grocery Manager when they are absent and perform their tasks (coordinate the department, schedule employees, make purchases, handle promotions, conduct inventories, calculate profits, enter data into the computer, etc.)
  • Be responsible for some purchases of goods for your department from approved suppliers.
  • Receive representatives from companies the department does business with.
  • Receive and count merchandise for sale such as grocery products, dairy products, frozen products, and any other product sold by your department. Ensure these goods are properly placed in the warehouse, refrigerator, freezer, or any other assigned storage area.
  • Label and display products for sale according to department rules.
  • Make price changes on displays and, if necessary, on products in your department.
  • If necessary, rotate merchandise on displays and keep work areas clean.
  • Be responsible for customer service in your department.
  • Ensure employees and yourself wear the required safety equipment.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of your department.
  • Conduct various inventories in the grocery department.
  • Promote the sale of various products and services offered to customers by your department.
  • Perform any other tasks as required by your immediate supervisor.
