SYSTRA Canada is an engineering and consulting firm specializing in the provision of transport solutions, whether for passengers or goods: feasibility studies for the construction of a new railway line, increasing the capacity of existing infrastructure, privatization of a railway network.

Context:

The ALTO project is a major infrastructure initiative in Canada's history, aiming to develop over 1,000 km of new passenger railway service between major urban centers, including Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and Quebec.

Missions/Responsibilities

• Supervise and carry out the characterization of physical environments (geology, geomorphology, physiography, surface deposits) as well as geotechnical risk assessments and recommendations for mitigation measures along railway corridors.
• Lead or participate in fluvial-geomorphological studies and the management of erosion and bank stability risks.
• Provide technical support and collaborate with Environment and Engineering teams, multidisciplinary groups, and external partners.
• Prepare and review technical and environmental reports, adapting specific expertise in the geology and geomorphology of Ontario and Quebec to Canadian-scale projects.

Profile/Competencies

Education: Master's (M.Sc.) or Ph.D. in geomorphology, geology, geosciences, or related field. Membership in a relevant professional order (e.g., OGQ, PGO) or ability to obtain it quickly.

Number of years of experience: Minimum of 10 to 15 years of relevant experience, ideally in the railway, infrastructure, or environmental sectors.

Technical skills

• Demonstrated experience in the characterization of physical environments, geological risk analysis, and the conduct of studies...
• In-depth knowledge of the geology and geomorphology of Ontario and Quebec.
• Proficiency in the use of tools and methods for the characterization of surface deposits, river mobility analysis, and geological risk assessment.
• Experience in major railway projects, team management, and knowledge of Canadian environmental regulations (an asset).
• Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing, in French and English.
