Required Qualifications (TQR):

• Master's degree in social work (MSW) or equivalent.
• At least five (5) years of relevant and demonstrated experience in child welfare, working with children and families facing violence, mental health issues, substance use, extreme poverty, or social exclusion.

Demonstrated practical application and/or teaching/research experience in the following areas:

• Prevention and intervention models that mobilize families, communities, and professionals, without minimizing the significant challenges faced by children in difficult, sometimes toxic environments;
• Policies, practices, research, and theoretical debates that shape child welfare services;
• Tensions between the values and ethics of social work and child welfare policies and practices;
• Mechanisms, functioning, and outcomes of the child welfare system;
• Evidence-based analysis of policy and practice issues in child welfare;
• Historical and political context of child welfare practice in Canada, particularly regarding First Nations communities and other marginalized populations;
• Major theories and research on child maltreatment, particularly in relation to sexual abuse, physical violence, neglect, and psychological maltreatment;
• Evidence-based support for prevention, assessment, and intervention models used in child welfare;
• Strategic initiatives and legislative influences affecting child welfare practice in Canada and internationally;
• Alternative practice approaches that draw on appropriate community and cultural resources.
