Deadline: August 7, 2026 23:59 HAE IMPORTANT: Full-time replacement Monday to Friday 8:30 AM-4:30 PM until January 2027 or until the incumbent's return JOB SUMMARY: UNDER THE GENERAL SUPERVISION OF THE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF STUDIES AND THE DIRECT SUPERVISION OF THE COORDINATOR OF THE PHARMACY TECHNIQUES PROGRAM, THE TECHNICIAN ASSISTS AND PARTICIPATES IN THE ASSEMBLY AND CONTROL OF EQUIPMENT, AND HELPS IN THE PREPARATION AND PRESENTATION IN THE LABORATORY AND CLASSROOMS, AS REQUESTED BY THE TEACHERS OF THE PHARMACY TECHNIQUES PROGRAM.
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide technical support for Pharmacy Techniques courses scheduled each session, in collaboration with department members.
- Control and maintain inventory, and be responsible for the availability of laboratory supplies as needed (including ordering necessary supplies).
- Ensure the proper functioning, maintenance, and use of laboratory instruments and equipment (e.g., calibration).
- Clean and maintain laboratory equipment in good working order; perform necessary repairs or replacements.
- Provide information to the coordinator for department budget planning.
- Contact vendors, repair companies, and other individuals as needed to manage equipment needs.
- Assist or supervise students using laboratory facilities and equipment.
- Maintain a library of reference books, journals, and articles in the laboratory and virtually, accessible to teachers and students.
- Assist the department in planning and scheduling laboratories, as well as preparing and developing facilities.
- Participate in the training of laboratory staff.
- Prepare, install, and reorganize equipment and supplies for each scheduled laboratory.
- Maintain laboratories and preparation rooms clean and in good condition.
- Ensure the availability of technical personnel during laboratory operating hours.
- Troubleshoot laboratory equipment issues.
- Troubleshoot laboratory activities.
- Maintain safety equipment and display safety instructions.
- Stay up-to-date with the evolution of techniques and procedures for preparing medications and update practical knowledge of techniques, if necessary.
- Coordinate waste disposal.
- Collaborate with other services for the sharing of spaces and equipment.
- Provide assistance during open houses and other related activities.
- Perform any other related tasks that may be assigned.
Education
- Hold a College Diploma (DEC) in an appropriate specialty or an equivalent recognized certificate from the competent authority.
- Have a pharmacy technician assistant training. A Professional Studies Diploma (DEP) in Pharmacy Technical Assistance would be an asset.
Specific Requirements
- Experience as a pharmacy technical assistant in both hospital and community settings is an asset.
- Solid knowledge of medication preparation techniques. Experience in preparing sterile and non-sterile medications is an asset.
- Obtain and maintain SIMDUT and first aid training certifications.
- Knowledge of the use and maintenance of equipment used in pharmacies.
- Knowledge of the pharmacy environment, i.e., hospital and community settings.
- Autonomy - ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of industry-related software.
- Knowledge of medical and related terminology.
- Basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology, as well as common health problems and diseases.
- Creativity and flexibility in designing innovative approaches to solve problems.
- Practical knowledge of common procedures and equipment in pharmacies.
- Ability to work in a team.
- Advanced English.
- Basic French (written, oral, and written comprehension).
