The Housing Office is responsible for providing affordable and reasonably priced housing to low-income citizens. Under the supervision of the maintenance foreman, the Building Maintenance Attendant performs various manual maintenance, repair, and maintenance tasks in our housing units, while providing a discreet and courteous customer service.
Responsibilities
- *Maintenance, repair, and prevention:*
- Perform tenant repair requests based on the information provided on work orders, OHHYR standards, and their urgency;
- Carry out various tasks related to carpentry, plumbing, and electricity that do not require specialized labor in these fields;
- Check, according to the preventive maintenance system, the various elements of the heating, ventilation, and other electrical systems;
- Maintain, adjust, or replace various components of the systems such as pumps, pressure regulators, safety valves, thermostats, belts, fuses, detectors, ventilation controls, etc.
- Replace smoke alarm batteries and ensure their maintenance.
- *Inspection and restoration:*
- Upon the vacancy of the housing units, carry out inspections and determine the repairs to be carried out or carried out to ensure the delivery of the housing unit and its equipment in good working order:
- Carry out the inspection upon the vacancy of the housing unit; identify the incomplete work and all other required work; prepare the list of these works and materials;
- Carry out various repair tasks such as hole repairs, doors, mosquito nets, cabinets, counters, painting, weatherproofing, floor covering repair or replacement, sanitary equipment repair or replacement, stove hood repair or replacement, etc.
- *Emergency service:*
- Ensure telephone coverage outside regular working hours (on rotation with other employees);
- Answer emergency calls;
- Identify problems and carry out immediate adjustments or repairs.
- *Health, safety, and workplace relations:*
- Ensure the proper functioning and safe use of tools, equipment, and products required for the execution of the work;
- Contribute to establishing harmonious relationships within the work team;
- Perform all other tasks requested by your supervisor.
Job Requirements
- Diploma in General Building Maintenance (DEP) or Sec. V combined with 5 years of experience in a construction trade;
- Possess a vehicle and a valid Class 5 driver's license issued by the Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec;
- Basic knowledge of construction, carpentry, plumbing, electricity, and building mechanics;
- Possess basic tools (hammer, screwdriver, pliers, etc.);
- Be available 24/7 to work on call and respond to emergencies during the on-call week (frequency to be determined).
- Good skills in executing manual tasks.
- Skills in using the necessary tools for the job.
- Ability to analyze and make judgments.
- Methodical and detail-oriented.
- Autonomy, sense of responsibility, and resourcefulness.
- Tact, courtesy, and discretion.
- Good physical abilities.
Working Conditions
- Full-time permanent position, 40 hours/week;
- Flexible schedule from Monday to Friday during the day, with the possibility of a condensed schedule, allowing you to finish by noon on Friday;
- Possible work on call 24/7 during the on-call week, frequency to be determined;
- Salary of $25.18/hour;
- 4 weeks of vacation, 13 holidays, 7 sick days;
