Distribution Matériaux Lavoie (DML) is looking for a Foreman – Lumber Yard to coordinate, supervise, and optimize daily yard operations.

As a true orchestra conductor, you will ensure a safe work environment, excellent operational efficiency, and outstanding customer service. You will be a positive leader, recognized for your ability to mobilize a team, communicate clearly, and make quick decisions.

Responsibilities

• Supervision of the team
• Plan and coordinate daily work of yard employees.
• Distribute orders and ensure they are prepared accurately.
• Track task progress and adjust priorities as needed.
• Lead and motivate the team in a respectful work environment.
• Ensure punctuality, attendance, and quality of work.
• Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and health and safety standards.
• Document incidents, non-compliance, and disciplinary measures when required.
• Recognize good work and contribute to employee development.
• Maintain up-to-date employee files.
• Participate in performance evaluations.
• Order preparation and customer service
• Read and interpret purchase orders.
• Prepare or assign order preparation.
• Ensure orders are accurate, complete, and ready on time.
• Welcome customers and provide fast, professional, and courteous service.
• Health and safety
• Apply health and safety standards rigorously.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Identify risks and intervene proactively.
• Train and sensitize employees to good safety practices.
• Receiving goods
• Coordinate truck arrivals.
• Verify the accuracy of received goods.
• Organize safe unloading and storage.
• Manage unexpected events and make quick decisions.
• Stock and equipment management
• Ensure inventory accuracy.
• Report discrepancies, losses, or breaks.
• Optimize storage methods.
• Maintain up-to-date inspections of forklifts and other equipment.
• Ensure employees have the required certifications to use powered equipment.
• Ensure proper functioning and maintenance of equipment.
• Report any safety concerns or defects.
• Perform any other related tasks.

Requirements

• 3 to 5 years of experience in a lumber yard, warehouse, construction sector, or related field.
• Experience in team supervision (a plus).
• Good knowledge of construction materials.
• Experience with material handling equipment (forklift, loader, pallet jack).
• Valid driver's license.
• Equipment operator certification (a plus).
• Good physical condition to perform manual tasks.
