Eastern Canada District projects include highways, bridges, public transit, mining site development, open-pit mining operations, hydroelectric plants, wind farms, dams, and industrial facilities. They serve the construction and mining industries and operate in Eastern Canada.

This position is based in Laval.

Responsibilities
- Develop a complete understanding of contract plans and specifications.
- Inspect/inspect field conditions and identify issues, inaccuracies, and cost-saving measures that occur or could occur. Take corrective action as needed.
- Inspect subordinates' work to ensure compliance with plans and specifications; report deficiencies, explain, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Listen to supervisors or employees' directives and suggestions regarding safe and appropriate work practices; evaluate this information and develop a plan to carry out the job tasks.
- Observe the operation of installed equipment or systems to determine hazards and the need for adjustment, relocation, or replacement.
- Identify workplace safety hazards and take all necessary measures to eliminate or reduce them.
- Understand and respond appropriately to all hazards and warning devices (e.g., backup alarms, smoke odor, colored tags, sirens).
- Understand and apply safe locking/tagging procedures.
- Develop and maintain the project master schedule using appropriate techniques and scheduling software, with the input of other project management members.
- Manage document control: receive and record new plans and contractual documents; maintain the document control log.
- Review new plans and contractual documents to identify changes; quantify the impact and revise with the supervisor; distribute new versions to the field.
- Prepare monthly cost projections from project management systems and prepare quarterly cash flow projections.
- Purchase and expedite material delivery; manage material control operations.
- Assist the site manager in implementing the project quality assurance program.
- Improve project operations by recommending, when appropriate, better methods, staffing adjustments, or procedural changes.
- Act as a project engineer/coordinator on multiple projects, ensuring supervision and on-the-job training of junior engineers.
- Use effective verbal and written communication skills. Perform mathematical operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) quickly and accurately.
- Read and understand plans and specifications; visualize two-dimensional drawings in three dimensions.
- Ensure coordination and tracking of files with different divisions and departments outside Quebec, ensuring clear, accurate, and effective communication, both orally and in writing.
Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in construction, ideally in commercial and industrial buildings, with a strong emphasis on safety.
- Bachelor's degree in a construction-related field or equivalent experience in project or field engineering.
- Practical knowledge and ability to direct the use of the following management systems: vendor accounts/customer accounts, material control, estimating, project cost updates, and subcontracts.
- Demonstrated skills in leadership and people management, communication (verbal and written), planning, organization, delegation, teaching, and mentoring.
- Ability to travel as operational needs require.
- Ability to establish excellence standards in leadership, safety, quality, and productivity for subordinates.
- Ability to access all areas of the construction site.
