The Hydraulic Engineer – Specialist in hydraulic studies, water intake, water supply and wastewater pumping stations, conveyance systems, and associated works. They also act as an expert in reservoir, retention basin, and other urban and industrial hydraulic works design. They are responsible for planning, analysis, design, and construction supervision of works intended for various sectors such as municipal, hydroelectric, mining, industrial, and environmental.

The person holding the position participates in all phases of the projects, from feasibility studies to commissioning of the facilities.

Your Role

As a Project Engineer in Hydraulics, you will:

  • Participate and conduct hydraulic studies for water intake works in rivers, lakes, reservoirs, or marine environments.
  • Determine design flows, water levels, flow velocities, and head losses in networks.
  • Assess the impacts of ice, sediments, floating debris, and seasonal variations on intake works.
  • Design surface or submerged intakes for industrial, mining, and municipal installations in partnership with Civil.
  • Design grids, screens, approach basins, intake chambers, and control structures and pumping stations.
  • Define hydraulic, structural, and operational design criteria.
  • Collaborate with civil, mechanical, geotechnical, environmental, and electrical teams to ensure the integration of works.
  • Prepare design bases, calculation notes, technical reports, and specifications.
  • Develop plans and estimates for pre-design, preliminary, and detailed stages.
  • Conduct multidisciplinary technical reviews.
  • Participate in project planning and engineering effort estimation.
  • Act as a resource person for clients and regulatory authorities.
  • Serve as a reference in hydraulics for the team.
  • Present concepts, assumptions, and study results.
  • Ensure the technical quality control of deliverables.
  • Provide construction support.
  • Respond to information requests from contractors.
  • Review workshop drawings and equipment data sheets.
  • Participate in site inspections and commissioning.

About You

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, water engineering, hydraulic engineering, or related discipline.
  • Master's degree in applied hydraulics (asset).
  • At least 15 years of experience.
  • Member of the Order of Engineers of Quebec.
  • Significant experience in water intake, pumping station, or major hydraulic works design.
  • Experience in water treatment and wastewater treatment plant hydraulics (asset).
  • Experience in hydroelectric, mining, industrial, or municipal sectors.
  • Knowledge of Canadian standards and applicable environmental requirements.
  • Good understanding of interactions between civil, mechanical, and process disciplines.
  • Client and results-oriented.
  • Ability to mentor and develop junior engineers.
  • Advanced proficiency in Office, Microsoft Project software.
  • Proficiency in urban hydraulic software (PCSWMM, WaterGEMS…) is a plus.
  • Proficiency in transient hydraulic software (OpenFlows HAMMER, SIMSEN) is a plus.
  • Proficiency in CFD software for hydraulic modeling (OpenFOAM…) is a plus.
  • Personal qualities: Autonomy, leadership, goal-oriented with a strong client focus and teamwork skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in French and English.
  • This position requires knowledge of another language besides French, such as English, since the clients and suppliers you will interact with are primarily English-speaking and located outside Quebec.
