Physical Education Teacher / Kinesiologist - Amputations and Severe Orthopedic Injuries (ABOG)

Position

A person who evaluates physical condition and designs safe and adapted physical activity programs for users to develop autonomous and sustainable physical activity practices. They establish a treatment and intervention plan through physical activity. They promote the benefits of physical activity and healthy lifestyle habits to improve health.

Summary of Responsibilities

Under the authority of the program head, the kinesiologist accompanies users in adopting and maintaining healthy lifestyle habits and developing strategies that promote optimal participation in their daily activities. With their expertise in therapeutic physical activity, they support individuals in managing the impacts of their health condition, restoring their physical abilities, and integrating an active lifestyle that contributes to their autonomy and quality of life.

The kinesiologist also intervenes on factors that promote rehabilitation and social participation, particularly through the integration of meaningful physical, social, and leisure activities. They work closely with interdisciplinary team members to ensure a coordinated, user-centered approach, focusing on their needs, goals, and priorities.

In partnership with the interdisciplinary team, they contribute to the evaluation of the user's needs and the development, implementation, and follow-up of the interdisciplinary intervention plan. They participate in determining rehabilitation goals, the means to prioritize, and the timelines to optimize functional results. Their interventions are carried out in individual or group contexts, as needed, according to clinical needs and the ABOG program's orientations.

The ABOG program kinesiologist primarily serves an external clientele with complex physical disabilities. They intervene with individuals who have undergone amputation, multiple fractures, or other severe orthopedic injuries requiring specialized rehabilitation. Their role aims to promote functional recovery, autonomy, social participation, and the long-term maintenance of a physically active lifestyle.

Main Responsibilities *Section A. Intervene with Users (60%)

• Evaluate and/or collect evaluative data based on their field of practice and skills.
• Determine intervention plan objectives with the user in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
• Identify the best strategies and most appropriate activities with the user to physically reactivate them while adapting to the negative consequences of their condition.
• Conduct individual or group interventions in the gymnasium based on their field of practice and the program's service offerings.
• Design physical activity programs to develop autonomous and sustainable physical activity practices.
• Teach users and their families exercises and activities that will promote the user's rehabilitation.
• Monitor the user's progress and the interventions carried out and adjust them as needed.
• Adapt activities to increase the user's safety and autonomy.
• Refer the user to appropriate resources.
• Lead teaching groups for users.
• Promote the benefits of physical activity and healthy lifestyle habits to improve health.
• *Section B. Collaborate with the Multidisciplinary Team and Partners (30%)
• Actively participate in individualized intervention plans with the interdisciplinary team.
• Regularly exchange with team members to monitor intervention plan objectives.
• Collaborate with colleagues on program activities.
• Participate in program meetings and activities.
• Collaborate with internal and external partners.
• *Section C. Perform Clinico-Administrative Tasks Associated with the Role (20%)
• Maintain records according to applicable rules.
• Complete daily statistics.
• Participate in research and clinical development projects related to their field of activity.
• Contribute to the clinical training of interns.
• Maintain and develop skills in line with their fields of intervention and expertise.
• Be aware of and keep up-to-date with current and adapted technologies.
• Participate in knowledge transfer with colleagues.

Required Academic Education

• Must hold a bachelor's degree in physical education, kinesiology, or another appropriate university discipline.

Other Requirements

• Possess a specialization in adult physical rehabilitation or physical activity adaptation.
• Ability and interest in conducting individual and group interventions in the gymnasium.
