Job Responsibilities

You will be part of the CIBC Financial Planning team, which offers comprehensive financial planning and specialized wealth planning strategies to CIBC's high-net-worth clients, including estate planning, business transition planning, tax minimization strategies, protection planning, and philanthropy. As a CIBC Financial Planning Advisor, you will be responsible for providing specialized financial planning and wealth management advice, working in partnership with CIBC branch-based advisors. You must be a certified financial planner with the Institute of Financial Planners (IFP), and you will work under the Canadian Securities Regulatory Framework/AMF (Canadian Securities Administrators).

How to Succeed

  • Product Knowledge and Support - Provide expertise on the economic and political impact on the company, legislation, competitors, regulators, trends, etc., generally acquired through 7 to 10 years of experience in financial advice/sales with high-net-worth clients. In-depth knowledge and expertise in investment matters and a solid understanding of markets sufficient to respond to detailed and complex requests from a group of sophisticated, well-informed, and wealthy clients.
  • Analysis - Analyze client portfolios and prepare retirement/investment plans. Interview clients to define and analyze their needs and objectives, identify gaps, discuss solutions, recommend an appropriate asset allocation, and conclude the sale.
  • Service Focus - Educate clients on their investments and portfolio. Educate advisors and relationship managers on the role of the financial planning advisor.
  • Partnership - Share the results of discussions with clients and coordinate the delivery of sold products/services with the relationship manager. Identify opportunities for referral to other CIBC subsidiaries involved in managing clients' assets and discuss with relationship management.
  • Collaboration - Maintain teamwork with relationship managers within the branch network to identify current and potential high-net-worth clients with investment, business transition, and estate planning needs and obtain referrals. Regularly organize information/seminar sessions for relationship managers.
