Pathogenia Inc. is seeking a qualified and motivated Instrument Technician to perform maintenance, calibration, qualification, and repair of laboratory instruments, equipment, and support systems used in a GMP-compliant environment.
The incumbent will ensure that equipment is kept in good working order, accurate, reliable, and compliant with regulatory requirements, while minimizing downtime and supporting laboratory activities. The position requires strong technical troubleshooting skills, a keen eye for detail, and a commitment to quality and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on laboratory instruments, equipment, and utilities in accordance with approved procedures.
- Conduct equipment calibration, verification, qualification support (IQ/OQ/PQ), and performance testing.
- Troubleshoot and repair laboratory instruments, electrical components, sensors, controllers, and associated systems.
- Coordinate with external service providers for equipment maintenance, calibration, and repairs.
- Review and maintain calibration certificates, maintenance records, and qualification documentation.
- Install, commission, and relocate laboratory equipment as required.
- Maintain equipment inventory and ensure maintenance and calibration schedules are current.
- Investigate equipment failures, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
- Support laboratory personnel by providing technical assistance and equipment training when required.
- Ensure all activities comply with GMP, GLP, Health Canada, ISO, and company quality requirements.
- Assist in equipment lifecycle management, including equipment selection, qualification, retirement, and change control.
- Participate in internal and external audits and support audit readiness.
- Maintain spare parts inventory and recommend replacement or upgrades for aging equipment.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability, efficiency, and compliance.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Instrumentation, Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, Biomedical Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience maintaining laboratory, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or life science equipment.
- Experience with calibration and maintenance of analytical and microbiology laboratory instruments.
- Working knowledge of laboratory equipment such as balances, pH meters, incubators, refrigerators, freezers, autoclaves, biosafety cabinets, HPLC, GC, spectrophotometers, pipettes, and environmental monitoring equipment.
- Familiarity with computerized laboratory systems and instrument software is considered an asset.
- Understanding of GMP, GLP, GAMP 5, data integrity (ALCOA+), and equipment qualification principles.
- Ability to read technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and equipment documentation.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with electrical and mechanical systems.
- Excellent organizational and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with QA, QC, Engineering, and Operations teams.
- Strong communication skills and a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
