About Us

The YHU terminal is a partnership between Porter Aviation Holdings and Macquarie Asset Management to develop and operate a new cutting-edge passenger terminal at MET - Montreal Metropolitan Airport in Saint-Hubert. This terminal will accommodate up to four million passengers annually, setting a new standard for passenger experience and operational safety.

The Senior GSE Mechanic ensures the inspection, preventive maintenance, diagnosis, repair, and return to service of essential airport operations equipment. The position is primarily focused on runway equipment, fuel truck tanks, de-icing trucks, and electric and diesel TLD aircraft tow tractors. The incumbent must be able to intervene autonomously in case of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, or electronic failures, while respecting manufacturer requirements as well as safety and operational requirements.

Main Responsibilities

Runway Equipment and TLD Tow Tractors

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on runway equipment, including tow tractors with or without tow bars, baggage tractors, baggage conveyors, ground power units (GPU), pneumatic starter units (ASU), passenger stairs, and service carts.
  • Diagnose and repair electric and diesel TLD tow tractors, including models TMX150, TPX100, and TPX50, or comparable TLD models.
  • Intervene on electric and diesel propulsion systems, traction batteries, chargers, controllers, cable bundles, sensors, CAN networks, transmissions, axles, brakes, steering, winches, and hydraulic circuits.
  • Perform functional tests, adjustments, and safety checks after repairs before authorizing return to service.

Fueling Equipment

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair fuel trucks and fueling equipment, including engines, transmissions, power take-offs, pumps, meters, filters, separators, winders, hoses, fittings, grounding systems, and emergency stop devices.
  • Identify and correct leaks, pressure losses, electrical failures, and fuel transfer system failures, in accordance with applicable procedures and environmental requirements.
  • Support required inspections, calibrations, and tests, and coordinate, as needed, specialized work with authorized vendors.

De-icing equipment

  • Perform maintenance and troubleshooting on de-icing trucks, including engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, fluid pumps, burners or heating systems, tanks, ramps, nacelles, controls, locking devices, and emergency stops.
  • Diagnose issues related to temperature, flow, pressure, lifting, rotation, propulsion, and controls; perform required functional tests after repairs.
  • Prepare equipment for winter operations and contribute to their reliability during critical de-icing periods.

Diagnostics, Maintenance, and Reliability

  • Read and interpret OEM manuals, electrical and hydraulic schematics, wiring diagrams, failure codes, service bulletins, and diagnostic procedures.
  • Use diagnostic tools, multimeters, ammeters, manometers, CAN tools, and manufacturer-specific software to determine the root cause of failures.
  • Perform maintenance on diesel and gasoline engines, cooling systems, fuel delivery and emissions control systems, transmissions, brakes, suspensions, pneumatic systems, and hydraulic circuits.
  • Plan and execute preventive maintenance programs according to manufacturer-prescribed intervals; recommend measures to reduce recurring failures and downtime.
  • Perform, as needed and within the limits of their skills, welding, fabrication, and component refurbishment work.

Documentation and Operational Support

  • Accurately record inspections, diagnostics, repairs, parts used, work hours, test results, and failure causes in the asset management system (EAM/VORTEX).
  • Quickly communicate equipment status, timelines, risks, and parts needs to the maintenance manager and operations team.
  • Respond to urgent failures on the movement area and coordinate interventions to limit impact on air operations.
  • Contribute to critical parts management, equipment commissioning, modification campaigns, and technical exchanges with manufacturers and vendors.
  • Share knowledge and mentor less experienced mechanics on complex diagnostics and repairs.

Health, Safety, and Compliance

  • Rigorously apply lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, job hazard analyses (JHA), fire prevention measures, and runway safety rules.
  • Comply with fuel, de-icing fluid, hazardous materials, spill, emissions, and environmental protection requirements.
  • Decommission and identify equipment posing a hazard; only recommission equipment after performing required inspections and functional tests.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area, and participate in inspections, audits, and failure investigations.

Required Qualifications

  • Possess five (5) to seven (7) years of recent, verifiable experience as a GSE mechanic or heavy equipment technician in an airport environment.
  • Have extensive practical experience with GSE equipment, including electric and diesel TLD tow tractors, fueling equipment, and de-icing trucks, and demonstrated ability to autonomously perform their maintenance, diagnosis, and repair. Direct experience with models TMX150, TPX100, and TPX50 is strongly preferred.
  • Have significant experience with runway equipment, fuel trucks, or fueling systems, and de-icing trucks.
  • Hold a Diploma of Vocational Studies (DEP) in heavy vehicle mechanics or heavy equipment mechanics, an electromechanical diploma, or equivalent recognized training.
  • Hold a relevant Competency Card (CPA-Montreal), journeyman certification, Red Seal, or equivalent combination of training and experience, as applicable.
  • Possess excellent diagnostic skills for diesel, low and high voltage electrical, electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Be able to read technical schematics and use manufacturer diagnostic tools and software.
  • Hold a valid Class 5 driver's license and be able to obtain and maintain required safety and runway permits.
  • Be able to communicate in French and have functional technical English to consult manufacturer manuals and communicate with them.

Assets

  • TLD manufacturer technical training or certification.
  • Experience with fueling equipment meeting applicable requirements and fuel quality control procedures.
  • Experience with de-icing systems, burners, fluid pumps, and lift nacelles.
  • Certification in electric vehicle safety or high voltage systems.
  • Welding and fabrication skills; Class 1 or 3 driver's license.
  • Experience with Cummins, Deutz, Kubota, Kohler, CAT, or equivalent engines.
